I've drank in the John Baird on several occasions now and also had the food a couple of times. The food's good without being great - I don't want to sound snobby but it probably wouldn't pass muster in a restaurant but scores well for a pub. Curries are tasty without being over-hot. Staff are pleasant - the service is a bit odd when you eat in the pub section - it's bar service for drinks and table service for food. You're served pretty quickly. The beer is excellent. Starters are £4-5, mains are £7-9. Rice is an extra £2-3 and isn't included in most dishes.
I'm finding this one a difficult one to give marks to. I don't want to score it low because there's definitely nothing wrong with it. On the other hand the food isn't ground-breaking. It scores well on atmosphere as it's a great pub with very nice staff.
