This Is London

Thursday, April 08, 2010 - The new chef, 25-year-old Maxime Le Van, used to be head chef at Club Gascon...Sea bream was a big, well-cooked fillet, salty and buttery, accompanied by excellent gratinated clams and some broccoli florets and confit cherry tomatoes, oozing into a coulis. Salmon with a pistachio crust was an oddity, the dish tasting peculiarly sweet cloying. The constant quest for high impact evident in the cooking here seems sometimes to go too far - although a Pear Belle Helene was simple and classic.

Wow! How average and predictable was that?

A local of mine. Have been many times over the years. The other weekday evening: Just finding the tedious menu and average everything a bit of a struggle. I so wish there was more competition round here to hot up the standard a bit. Give me what I deserve for what I pay. please. Not what you think you'd be worth if you were actualy what you say you are.

Pull your hot damn socks up. Better food. Better service. Better wine. That's ALL I ask.

I celebrated my 30th birthday at Paradise on a Sunday afternoon and had a fantastic time. The food was delicious, service faultless, and atmosphere electric. After lunch we hired the karaoke room which was ridiculously fun.

One of the best places in West London especially on a Sunday!

Very friendly and helpful service, lovely ambiance and certainly a good local to treasure. My husband's steak was excellent but I fared less well with my steak tartare which was not prepared to traditional methods (lacked many ingredients). Eton Mess for dessert was moorish and a real treat, as was the ice-cream selections. The scallops for starters were good but were let down by an incredible salty juice. We thankfully had the tastecard which was a blessing as it turned out that this is a very dear gastro-pub, on a par with top West End places so not good value for money if having to pay the full price. A meal for two in such an establishment shouldn't come to over £90 (this comprised 3 courses, two Ales and water - no wine). This can be a very noisy place but we were lucky on having dined there on a relatively quiet evening. All in all a very pleasant experience but with some issues.

Dined at Paradise, 22nd of April, Sunday night - started out with a plate of charcuterie - great flavours....and led perfectly to the succulent Suckling Pig roast (maybe I am a meat-lover). Finished with Cheesecake & a cappucino...was with a group and the table and ambiance was perfect & the timing of the courses and food was fantastic - the waiters were jovial and fun without overdoing service (coming from America...I appreciate less fussiness in the UK, but really appreciate it when waiters are friendly) - and very attentive!

Wines were paired nicely with the courses - thanks to one person in our group.

And also saw an actress who is in a play in the West End dining nearby. The place was a buzz and reminded me that dinners on Sunday night can be fun.

Overall - such a blast. Will be back soon with another big group for a busy Sunday night atmosphere!

Managed to get to Paradise this weekend after hearing so many good things from friends – wish I had gone sooner! It’s an amazing place with some real style… same goes for the food! Everything perfectly cooked with lots of flavour. …Definitely now one of our favourite places to eat and drink in London – highly recommended.

Went to Paradise of Kensal Green with friends for Sunday lunch at the weekend and had a fantastic time.

Food, wine and service all uniformly excellent. Especially enjoyed the charcuterie board with all-British meats to start. I followed it with roast lamb with all the trimmings. Lamb was perfectly cooked and the roast potatoes were the best I've had in ages. Had a lovely red from Portugal and finished up with a very good cheese board (again, all of British provenence) served at ROOM TEMPERATURE (it's genuinely astonishing how many restaurants fall down on this simple but important rule with cheeses!).

Great venue with lots of character. Staff are charming and attentive and the food is top notch. What more do you want from a Sunday lunch? Perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon.

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Monday, January 24, 2011 - To start, I opted for a fowl terrine, consisting of nuggets of chicken, duck and pheasant. I was surprised at being able to distinguish each individual bird, and with a really rather nice and tart cranberry relish, I managed to polish the lot off with minor assistance. In exchange, I snaffled tasters of scallops and soup, all excellently executed...Desserts were a complete dud note, so the less said about them the better, but it certainly didn't put a dampener on the evening. With a name like Paradise, it certainly has a lot to live up to, but thankfully it could mostly justify those claims with a solid display from the kitchen.
