This Is London

David Sexton - 3/5

Thursday, April 08, 2010 - The new chef, 25-year-old Maxime Le Van, used to be head chef at Club Gascon...Sea bream was a big, well-cooked fillet, salty and buttery, accompanied by excellent gratinated clams and some broccoli florets and confit cherry tomatoes, oozing into a coulis. Organic salmon with a pistachio crust was an oddity, the dish tasting peculiarly sweet cloying. The constant quest for high impact evident in the cooking here seems sometimes to go too far - although a Pear Belle Helene was simple and classic.

The location - the house - is great!!!! Such a cool place!

We were a group of 18 persons having dinner in the private dining room

last saturday. Food and wine were really good and we enjoyed the cool atmosphere. Also the drinks and music at the bar were cool and made us dance all night! We would definitely recommend The Paradise!

And will for sure come back!

Visited Paradise on Saturday 14th May 2011. I was tasked with organising a massive Hen do for 27 people. This was the ideal location!

Not only was it cool and quirky venue big enough to house 27 fun loving Hen's. It had a fantastic atmosphere which largely due to the staff. They were extremely friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much of a problem for them!

We had afternoon tea which was just amazing. Plenty of sandwiches, scones, clotted cream the works. Subsequently an perfect Hen do was had by all, especially by the Bride to be.

I would most definitely recommend a visit and when I'm next in the area I will be stopping by to say hello!

Well done Paradise! x

Hired the Karaoke room at the Paradise this weekend for my daughter and her friends - it was great fun, such a cool place, all the staff were really helpful and friendly and even had a nice chat with a regular - quite unusual for a London pub - I can say that as an ex-pat Yorkshire lass who's been in London for over 20 years!

I had my birthday lunch for 17 people in the upstairs dining room at Paraise on a Sunday, and it was fantastic! The room was perfectly set-up and we had access to the terrace which is perfect for a sunny day. The food was as always, exceptional. Our waiter was fantastic and extremely attenttive. They had music playing but we were able to plug in our iphones for our own tunes which was also great.

My birthday was lovely and something I will treasure. 10 out of 10 across all measures and I can highly recommend it.

Last Wednesday, four of us went to Paradise for my friends birthday. We don't get over to West London very often so it was a real treat.

We had a few ales in the bar as one of our party was late getting there - lovely to see a proper real ale on in a bar these days.

Once we sat down, all of our eyes were attracted straight to the cote de boeuf. We decided on two servings between the four of us. In the mean time we got stuck into some starters, personally I went for the Mackeral pate which was delicious, a very generous portion for a starter as well. The others had crab and a soup I think. Everyone was very happy with their dishes.

When the mains arrived, we were all gob-smasked, the beef was unreal - a very healthy size and cut of beef, out of this world!!

This was all aided by the fact that the birthday boy had a bit of crush on the lovely waitress!

We finished the night with some great whiskeys, lovely stuff.

Visited the restaurant on bank holiday monday 02/-5/11 with some friends for the first time and found that the food was really mediocre. the devon crab ceviche was mainly avocado, the rib-eye steak was mainly fatty. the service was patchy to say the least. when the waiter cleared the table and took our starter cutlery, i said, you took my knife, he looked at the soiled knifes and asked which one was yours? he was at the verge of handing me back a dirty knife - but then thought otherwise and gave me a new knife for my main course. after this incident it was hard to get his attention for anything other than the bill which came with suprising speed!

overall i would never take friends to 'paradise' or entertain business clients, the service is too bad and the food not good enough to warrant the money spent.

This a great friendly venue for some good honest, but stylish dining, in the tradition of the english gastropub. The atmosphere is romantic but also happening which makes you feel at ease to just let loose and enjoy! I love the beautiful decor but even more the beautiful food!!! Fabulous!

Whilst the food was amazing the service wasn't very good. Had to continuously call the waiter to poor more wine and water - little bit disappointing especially as we entertained clients.....and did mention that upon reserving the table.

I love this place, have been for dinner a few times now and it is always a step above a normal pub dining experience. The dining room feels like a dining room should, away from the busy bar and is quite decadent in a quirky way. The food was excellent, I had a pork and chicken terrine to start and shared a chateaubriand with my partner, simply excellent, the beef in particular was cooked to perfection. We shared a great bottle of Frog's Leap cabernet sauvignon followed by an Alion Ribero del Duero - both recommended by the waiter and they were well matched to our meals. Overall, a great night out - the espresso martinis to finish were very tasty but probably not necessary!

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

A Rather Unusual Chinaman

Monday, January 24, 2011 - To start, I opted for a fowl terrine, consisting of nuggets of chicken, duck and pheasant. I was surprised at being able to distinguish each individual bird, and with a really rather nice and tart cranberry relish, I managed to polish the lot off with minor assistance. In exchange, I snaffled tasters of scallops and soup, all excellently executed...Desserts were a complete dud note, so the less said about them the better, but it certainly didn't put a dampener on the evening. With a name like Paradise, it certainly has a lot to live up to, but thankfully it could mostly justify those claims with a solid display from the kitchen.
