The Leicester Square Bar and Restaurant specialises in fish, which was a major factor in booking dinner there last week - as well as the fact that it participates in a discount card scheme offering 50% off food.

My husband and I arrived 45 minutes before our booking, so decided to take tea in the comfortable seating area at the edge of the restaurant. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to this request, providing a great pot of tea with some attractive crockery.

Everything in this restaurant is stylish and modern, while the seating is comfortable - particularly at the dining tables. The space isn't large, creating quite an intimate atmosphere - as there weren't many diners, the ambience would have otherwise suffered.

I had a pleasant first course of scallops, although the accompanying mash was a little overpowering. I went for a simple salmon course for my main meal, tempted by the accompanying wild mushroom sauce. This was good - and my mother, who also chose this, loved it.

My vegetarian husband lacked choice, although the menu is generally extensive, but enjoyed the limited options nevertheless. Although the restaurant focuses on fish, there are some meat dishes, and my father enjoyed his lamb. We also went for vegetable side dishes, which we were well-prepared and good portions.

Pudding for me was the brown bread ice cream, which I really liked, The cheese plate option is also impressive, as well as being good value.

A decent night out and I'll probably return if in the area - especially because of the discount.

Leicester Square Bar and Restaurant was quite when we ate there, but thats expected at 4.30 on a Sat afternoon. Everything else was really great. The decor, service, and food was all excellent, especially the brown bread ice cream! 3 courses and wine for £40/head I think is excellent value for the west end with great quality food.
