The Spice Lounge is now, sadly, closed. A great loss to the limited Walthamstow eating scene.

Tried Spice Lounge for the first time last night. I am happy to report that we found the food was freshly cooked and not over-oily or salty, the menu was interesting, the prices very reasonable (starters at £3, mains £6-8), and the service impeccable. Slightly lower rating for atmosphere is only because it was very quiet, so hard to tell. My wife and I are pretty fierce critics when it comes to restaurant cooking; there are only a few places across the capital that we trust to deliver something fresh and tasty with a customer-focused service attitude and some pride in what is being served.

Thanks to London Eating for helping us find this (no thanks to printed-press restaurant reviews that routinely ignore people like us who are interested in food, but who believe spending £100 or more on a single meal is somewhat immoral). Good luck to independent places like Spice Lounge. We'll be back.

We have lived in Walthamstow now for 2 years and have never found another restaurant in the area (which includes as far and wide as Wanstead, Leyton and even Islington) that represents such quality at such value for money.

I have tried almost everything on their menu and it is all exceptional with many interesting variations on the usual Indian fare. To start I love the King prawn puri and the Chicken Chat is also to die for. There are plenty of wonderful main courses but I do think they have some great fish options and the Zeera Ghosh is a particular favourite of mine.

My vegetarian friend always has an interesting option and the dhal is apparently wonderful

Service is extremely polite and attentive. You have to wait a little while for your dishes to arrive but that is to be expected as they are all cooked and prepared from scratch / fresh and the atmosphere is very cosy.

We enjoy the food in this local restaurant so much that we are spoiled - we find it difficult to justify paying to eat at any other indian restaurant when the one round the corner is such good value for money.

We love this restaurant, after moving to Bakers Arms in March, we searched high and low for a nice restaurant to take my parents to. After reading reviews on this very website we thought we would give the Spice Lounge a try. We went on a Thursday evening so it was quite quiet, the waiters were friendly and even cracked a few good jokes. The service was very very good. My dad likes to think he knows his Indian cuisine and he was very impressed. What makes the Spice Lounge a cut above the rest is the menu, it includes some fantastic, unique options. My favourite is the Nilgiri Murgh (Chicken, coconut, spinach, chilli and cashew nuts), my boyfriend is partial to the tandoori duck and we always share the Bangledeshi fish as a starter. We visited the Spice Lounge first on a Thursday, enjoyed it that much we then took my boyfriends parents there on the Sunday (particulary ideal as my boyfriends dad is a vegetarian and the SL offers many options) - we are there again this evening too!

Everyone should try this restaurant once, for the great food, great service and I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised when you receive the bill!

With so many Indian restaurants to choose from in Walthamstow you have to be good to stand out from the crowd and Spice Lounge (together with just a couple of others) certainly does this.

The atmosphere is friendly, with nice decor, subtle lighting, and extremely friendly and informative staff.

The food was delicious, very subtle and complex spices (appropriate to the name). I'll be back again soon with my wife to sample more of the extensive menu.

We use The Spice Lounge as our local takeaway. The food is always fresh and delicious and the menu is varied, offering nice fish dishes, chef specialities and using different ingredients (like mango) which makes this a cut above other indians in Walthamstow.

And you get a free beer. What more can you ask for??!

This restaurant is the best Indian I have been to. The food is consistantly excellent, the menu is extensive and interesting and the service is great.

Worth travelling to get to this one.

Can't recommend this place enough! Friendly and attentive (but not overbearing) service, beautifully cooked food with an interesting menu, nice decor and atmosphere. I live two streets away so am a very regular customer but would recommend to anyone over a night out in Brick lane, for example. Superb.

Coming from Livepool on a business trip to London, I went to this restaurant for dinner on 01 Jan 2006. Besides good food, I have noticed a very high level of customer service. The waiters are very well mannered, and as courteous and friendly as those in 5 star hotels, which is quite surprising for a small restaurant.

Spice Lounge is a great place - some of the best Indian food I've tasted, good range of veggie options and their fish dishes are lush. Best thing is, their food isnt swamped with nasty cheap ghee or overly hot rather than spicy. Some of the dishes are wonderfully delicate and they'll make dishes to order if you can't see a particular favourite on the menu. Not only is the food fantastic, the prices are incredibly cheap. Its right near St James St train station or a quick bus ride to Walthamstow Central and is worth making the effort to visit. You'll be greeted by some of the most genuinely friendly waiters in town too!
