The Original Spaghetti House

I've tried this restaurant twice now in recent times and I can't tell you how disappointed I am with it compared to the restaurant of the 70's and 80's. The original formula served authentic Italian dishes such as Bocconcini/Polpettine/costelleta di vitello presented by authentic Italians. Are there any chefs out there who worked for Spaghetti House in those heady times who know the genuine recipe for the best bolognese sauce in the world as served then and are prepared to share it with a dedicated afficionado?

This was really nice- the service was friendly, even on a busy saturday night, and the food was especially nice- I had the smoked salmon tagliatelle- which I have tried to make at home since. The prices seem good for London- though I'm not really one to say, as I live in Wiltshire!
There were lots of families, of all ages eating there- a good indicator that the service and food are good.
The only thing I would say is that they have a lot of upstairs seating, so if mobility is a problem it might be best to book ahead for a ground floor table.

Me and my girlfriend went to The Spaghetti House on Goodge St last night and had a very nice meal last night. The starter of mushrooms in gorganzola was divine, thick and creamy cheese served on two huge tasty mushrooms. My partner had some wonderful looking calamari with some fresh garlic mayonaisse. The main courses were generous and tasty and very good value for money. The Penne with chilli and mozarella was exquisite and the spaghetti with anchovies and olives looked and by all accounts tasted fantastic. Both the Wine and Olives that came with our meal were very good and including Tea and Coffee the bill was under £50. Not bad at all. This restaurant might not be for fussy food connoseurs but the staff and decor and friendly and informal, the food is tasty and plentiful and the location is fantastic. We will go again.

Went there for dinner last night, had pasta with chicken and bacon. Very standard meal that I could have quite easily prepared at home. However, my friends had the tagliatelle with veal and the mushroom risotto, which they said was divine. The portions are very good especially for the price. Overall, 6/10

A very run of the mill Italian restaurant. It's certainly not bad but the food is nothing better than you could do with a trip to Sainsbury's and 20 minutes at home. If you're in the area, you're probably better off at Zizzi for that price range.

As a group of ex work colleagues, we have been going there for our annual reunion for almost 30 years. Even when some had to travel from the States or Japan, we still all met once a year to be spoiled by the excellent food and wine and usually good service. That must say something about the place!!
There are only 16 of us left now (RIP Don) but we are all looking forward to our meal in a few weeks time.
