Three visits over quite an extensive period ... all of them a delight. The food was delicious (e.g. a steak that has only been bettered once and that was on the Left Bank in Paris),and we found the the staff to be attentive and friendly without that cloying familiarity that some diners seem to crave. The standard of the cuisine, for a little French restauarant in a London suburb, was excellent. I just can't recognise the disaster zone that some reviewers describe but am pleased that many others agree with me. It does make you wonder whether sometimes these rants say more about the reviewer than the restaurant itself. Of course, they could have hit off days - but please don't think tyhey are typical.

I went there for my birthday and really wished I hadn't. My starter and main were both swimming in the same thin, oversalted sauce, my lamb was woefully overcooked, the wine was average and bill was astronomical. My boyfriend is French and I wished I'd asked him to cook at home instead, at least we would have tasted something that was actually French! This is dining for people who are entirely clueless about French cuisine.

Dined at Bistro Aix a few weeks ago on the the say-so of a mate who lives in London. I was on vacay there for a few days visiting friends & family and wanted something more sophisticated than 'grub'. Good food served unpretentiously (but beautifully) and at affordable prices. (didn't go on my expense account). Nice dinner house, nice wines, nice people. Didn't have to go to Hampstead! (I'm in Japan and we just had an earthquake - I hate it when that happens!) Keep up the good work Bistro Aix!

We are so happy to have such a lovely quality restaurant in our area! The food is fantastic, especially the foie gras, steaks, and the venison is one of the best dishes I have had out in London. The service is professional and friendly. We recently joined their membership club and were invited to a very nice wine tasting dinner, and other offers, 2 for 1 and free champagne. Highly recommended and good value. Oh and charming mix of classical music!

This place in incredible. The best French restaurant I have been to outside of Fracne. It's not cheap but it's not outrageously priced either, and offers good value. The service is good too, although those unfamiliar with the Gallic style of service might find it a little aloof. You will need to book ahead at weekends.

This place is Fantastic. Three of us enjoyed possibly one of the best meals ever here last Sunday and I've been fortunate enough to eat at many of the greats.
The Beef Stew was sublime, the Guinea Fowl, just perfect and the Duck was to die for. Delicious, flavoursome and generously portioned vegetables were served with all mains. We had a fabulous bottle of Beaujolais which was very reasonably priced and the deserts were works of art in both appearance and taste.
The service was warm, knowledgeable and efficient.
Aix rocks!

Good atmosphere but terrible food. Badly cooked panfried foir gras. Overcooked duck. The gratin dauphinois was a mix of vegetable of all kind when it is supposed to be only potataoes. When asked the manager pretended that this was the original recipe! Pretend to be French but clearly overrated and overpriced for the quality of the Food. Service not great!

Polite service. Really well cooked, unfussy food and the atmosphere is classy and grown-up. Good value too.
Have been here a few times and the food is very good. I wonder how this place is doing though - we were the only people in there on Saturday lunchtime and they no longer open for lunch during the week.
Highlights are some nicely cooked duck (juicy and tender with the crisp skin just right) and roasted guinea fowl that had a wonderful flavour.

I ate here last Sunday, we had the lunch special for £15 - 3 courses, it was excellent. I have eaten here a couple of times before and have never been dissapointed. This is a good quality, good value local restaurant. It wasn't busy when we last visited and i hope this was a result of the bad weather and torrential rain rather than the negative reveiws below.

We arrived early for a meal on a Tuesday night, so it was no surprise to see that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Though as soon as we were in the staff were attentive and astute to our needs. We were not hurried at all throughout the whole meal which was, overall, a good meal. Starters of Scallops and leeks were good, nothing too exciting except the great flavour of tender scallops. Main course of Rack of Lamb with Potato and vegetable gratin was very pleasing though the lamb was a little over done and not well rested I would say. My companions Venison was rather tough as well and the whisky sauce it came in had no hint of whisky. Though she was also served perfect mash potato which is always a treat, though it was unfortunately the best thin gon her plate! Desert followed, as it does, and I opted for the Chocolate Fondant, home made vanilla Ice cream and Cherries soaked in some sort of liquor that escapes me now. Fondant was perfectly running in the middle and crisp on the edges though far from sweet enough for my taste. Vanilla Ice cream was flawless and the cherries were inedible as they were drenched in the liquor - it was more like doing a shot than taking a bite! We washed all this down with a fine French Chardonnay from their very nice wine list. £92 for 2 people, 3 courses and a bottle of wine. Not too bad but for that price I would have expected a slightly higher standard of cooking and some better thought out flavours. It was all a bit bland but I wouldn't write this place off entirely. The starters and deserts were good quality food. Maybe we chose the wrong mains? Delightful staff and a good atmosphere. I would happily give it another go as there was lots more to choose from on the menu.
