After reading a lot of good reviews about this restaurant, I decided to take my wife on a date there. We did not book, as it was a spur of the moment thing. Upon arrival we were giving a table at the front of the restaurant, which was perfect as I am a smoker. Service was good, food was good. Could not really say anything wrong about this place, except there prices. I am always willing and able to pay a bit extra for good food, but there was nothing extradionary about the food there. If there was something that took my breath away, then maybe yes. All in all a good restaurant with good food, speak to the bank manager before you go though! Will go again!

My husband and I have eaten at Sargasso Sea several times in the last 6 months. The food has always been of a high standard and very enjoyable. We went last night (14 July 07) for his birthday and it was excellent. I had huge prawns in garlic butter to start and then Icelandic cod in green pea sauce. The sauce is a stunning colour and really sets off the beautifully cooked cod. My husband had the spaghetti and lobster and whilst good, he said he was a little disappointed with the lobster. The puddings were good - a sticky date pudding with a birthday candle on the top and a pannacotta which was very rich and moreish. We drank a rose Sancerre and had dessert wine to finish. As previous reviews have said, it is not cheap but why should it be? The quality of the food is good and everything is cooked freshly to order. The only criticism I have is the price of the side order vegetables, particularly the five chips at £3.50. I would have liked to be offered tap water as well. All in all, a great local restaurant which I would recommend.

Discovered this place whilst researching another restaurant on this site and luckily someone's review included the words 'nowhere near as good as Sargasso Sea'... so off I went in that direction ! My husband and I ate here a few weeks ago for our anniversary and had a really fabulous meal. I am taken aback by the couple of negative comments about the food especially as they are so recent. Our food was knockout, and I don't usually order seafood unless I'm by the sea, but this was obviously totally fresh. The bill came to £104 for two for 3 courses and a bottle of wine and water, service included and whilst that's not a cheap dinner I've frequently paid that kind of money and had nowhere near as good food and service. Our main courses (platters) were very generous, and starters could have been skipped but that would have been a shame as they were so delicious. We had a lovely private table in an alcove so it was very quiet, I can see that it could get noisy, but the decor is very classy. I will be recommending Sargasso Sea to anyone who wants a top quality meal in North London without forgoing some West End glamour.

Took my husband at Sargasso Sea on Saturday night and we had a lovely evening. The food was fantastic and it really is worth every penny. The service was very good - attentive but yet non-intrusive. One of the nicest restaurants in North London.

Has to be one of the finest restaurants in North London. The food is faultless and the service is the best I have come across in any London restaurant. The owners of this place obviously care passionately not just about the food they serve, but about the customer that is paying for it.

The décor has recently been updated and it is beautifully done; low key and very sophisticated. They have an outdoor terrace for the summer and now have an informal bar/eating area at the front of the restaurant. The rear of the restaurant, for more formal dining, is spacious, comfortable and good ambient lighting complements the overall welcoming feel of this restaurant.

The staff are courteous and attentive and really know their stuff, without being too formal or fussy. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Haven't been to a better seafood restaurant in the UK, this simply hands down beats the lot. When you see the prices on the menu you'll think they are a bit too much, but once you havent finished eating you'll know it was worth every penny. Been many times and as the reviewer below said, the spaghetti with lobster is amazing!

Went here in January and are going again. Not cheap, but great food and friendly helpful staff. Recommended. Also, minor celebrities spotted... (East Enders 'stars'). Bit noisy as very busy and wooden floors etc are a little echoey.

Unless you really do not like seafood this restaurant is superb. Food is amazing, service generally very good. Bit pricey for the area but worth it.
