Matthew Norman - 10/10

Friday, June 25, 2010 - Basque quail with minced pork and cranberries drew a: 'Wow, there's a real culinary intelligence at work here', while the highlight of highlights was caramelised oxtail in red wine, cooked for 36 hours until it was all dark and gooey and wonderfully melty, and exploding with herby-wino-bovine flavour...'I can honestly say,' declared my friend over coffee, 'that I've never had a better lunch in this country.' Nor have I, and in a bold stab at originality let me state this: you simply have to go.

The food at this restaurant was completely ruined by the appalling atitude of the staff in particular the manager who provides the Fawlty Towers example of customer care. We could have forgiven the rushed experience but not the menacing manager. Such a shame for a potentially good restaurant to have no appreciation of how the importance of respect for the customer can be the difference between an excellent dining experience and a nightmare.

I absolutely love Cambio de Tercio. I live in New York and I hope the owner reads this as Im sure many new yorkers including myself would love it if he opened a Cambio de Tercio in New York.

I lived in Spain for 13 years, so i can say im very familiar with spanish dishes and what this restaurant offers is SUPERB!! in capital letters.. they use the best of the best ingredients from their country and they have about 600 different spanish wines.

I will definitely be coming back to London more often to visit Cambio de Tercio and their very helpful and efficient staff.

well done guys !!

We went to cambio de tercio recently for our daughter's birthday. We arrived before our duaghter and her husband, and the waiters were very hospitable, suggesting non-alcoholic drinks we could have, and generally we felt very relaxed. Once the rest of the group had come, the waiters became a lot more frenetic, thrusting menus before us and seeming to want us to order very quickly. We eventually settled on the Tasting Menu, as it seemed to offer a great variety of flavours. The first dish came, and it was really very good. No sooner had one of us eaten than the empty dish was whisked away. As soon as we had all finished the first course, the second was on its way, with no pause for digestion or reflection. The same with the third dish. When the fourth dish came, we asked to waiter to slow down a bit, after which things were slightly better, but only marginally. We felt rushed and pressured all the time, and in the end we refused to pay the service charge. I would not go back to this place for all that it Hibernian Restaurant of the Year.

Pig Pig's Corner

Tuesday, September 15, 2009 - 'Crispy ham and bechamel sauce croquettes, tomato-thyme sauce'. About the same size as ping-pong balls, the crispy exterior belied the incredibly soft and creamy filling. I found the croquettes here less cheesy and potato-ey than other restaurants, making it a lighter more enjoyable snack. The tomato sauce was very aromatic and made a very good dipping sauce. The 'New spicy patatas bravas' was a far cry from the usual fare I'm accustomed to, but in a good way. The potato skin was folded to make a little cup where the spicy tomato sauce was poured into and topped with aioli and chives...
