The Banana Leaf

Went to this restaurant for the first time last night and found the food to be sub-standard. My starter arrived lukewarm and main course consisted of cheap cuts of meat, watery curry (I went for the green curry) and low grade rice (it was dry and hard unlike rice that is served in good asian restaurants). I would compare the food to something you can get in a supermarket meal deal box. Really really bad food. The wine list was pretty disappointing as well. I would avoid this restaurant in future and would not recommend it to anyone.

What is Patrick below talking about?? Its one of our local restaurants and it is cheap, friendly, amazing food and quite simply remarkable.

I really do suggest anyone trying it, there is something for everyone, I recommend the soups or pad thai absolutely delicious. going again on thursday, can't get enough.

My friends and I had a party a few days ago. We were amazed about the crowd in the restaurant. You hardly could hear the music. Food was the best i could taste in this type of restaurant. Service was amazing and good laugh. they looked after us poor things (we dropped a glass of wine on the table) lol

Will pop up again soon, we live in north london, its a shame they don't have one closer :)

Am suprised, to say the say the least, with the reviews for this restaurant. I went there for the first time on Saturday night and thought the food was seriously awful - so bad, in fact that it was funny. We had chicken satay (small, tasteless and chewy), spring rolls (soggy and soaking in grease) and two mains that were simply beyond the pale.

So, although the atmosphere was good and the service friendly, never, ever, visit this place if you actually require good food!

I've eaten a couple of times at the Banana Leaf, as its very local. The service is always good; the staff have mastered that level of looking after you but not intruding, and are always pleasant and friendly. The food is always very good, and their meal deal which is about £9 for a main meal and mini entrees, is very good value. The atmosphere is very relaxed and easygoing with a share table policy (hence the canteen atmosphere). Its similiar to the Pepper Tree at Clapham Common - though not related as far as I know - , but in my opinion the better of the two canteen asian style restaurants in the area. Will happily recommend the restaurant for an easy dinner out or a girly gossip meal.

They have now banned smoking in the restaurant which people will be pleased to hear!

Had a fantastic meal there last night (22nd March, 2006) - food was very nice. Service was fine too and the price very reasonable. Vegetarian and vegan dishes are clearly labelled. They also serve some great freshly extracted juices which are well worth a try!
