Went to Galicia today and i can honestly say the quality of food is very very good. I don't understand the low food rating, the tapas were amazing and the portions were a plus. though service quality could be improved my overall experience in galicia was very good

Having been there some 18 months ago, on this visit food is microwaved and when questioning the management was told everything was fresh. I have never seen a transparant prawn from the pan before. if you want the same standard of food go to La Tasca and save yourself a lot of money. This restaurant has gone down hill big time can understand why you dont need to book a table now.

I'm from Galicia and I have only been once to this restaurant. After reading the amazing reviews on this website I had high expectations and left quite disappointed.

Best thing about this place is the atmosphere. It really feels like a Spanish/Galician bar. Drinking a cold Estrella Galicia while waiting for our table was the most enjoyable part of the whole "dining" experience.

Service was good and efficient. Waiters were extremely friendly and recommended some dishes.

Their knowledge and offer of Galician wines was quite limited and with the great variety of good albarinhos and ribeiros available in this country (Murgans, Gran Bazan or Pazo Senorans...) they probably chose the cheapest/worst ones. At £20 a bottle I was expecting better quality.

With regards to the food, the "gambas al ajillo" and tortilla were fine (then again, they are pretty basic dishes), calamares were also ok, slightly chewy. My greatest disappointment came with the "grilled sardines". The fish weren't actually sardines but baby mackerels (in Galicia we call them "xurel"), similar shape but completely different taste. One is an oily/tasty fish, what I got was a dry, tasteless fish.

The breaded mushrooms weren't even edible. They were deep fried and with every bite you'd get a nasty taste of old cheap oil that the mushroom had absorbed. Didn't touch them again.

Prices are reasonable and I might go back again to try a main dish instead of going for the tapas.

Maybe it was our unlucky day but this restaurant does not really deserve a 10 out of 10. If you just go for the "party/relaxed atmosphere" then you won't be disappointed, if you want quality ingredients and skillful cooking, then don't expect much from this restaurant.
