OK, good value for Japanese, but lets admit to it, it's all rather bland; sourced and cooked to a budget.

We went to Taro last Sunday in the early evening, myself a first-timer. We each opted for a bento set which came with miso soup, sushi, sashimi, rice and choice of meat (e.g. eel, chicken), bean sprouts and edamame. The food was tasty and the sashimi quite fresh - all in all value for money at £11-15 for a bento set! The service was pleasant enough, while the bright canteen ambience was conducive for chatting during and after dinner. Would definitely return to Taro again.

A friend of mine who had lived in Japan and craved proper ramen introduced me to Taro (1) a few years ago, and I've been a regular at both branches for some time. As said below, it is completely unpretentious, and not ideal for an intimate meal, but the food is very good, and excellent value - it's proper food, not processed crap. The bento boxes are particularly good value, and the ramen are outstanding too. Sushi is decent and reasonably priced. Everyone I've introduced it to has loved it too. The staff are very friendly too.

Taro is a really excellent restaurant. Its great value and offers a good range of Japenese food, both of the sushi and noodle variety. The sushi is better than Yo! and the noodles are better than Wagamama and Busaba and come in much larger portions at lower prices! Also its very unpretentious and a friendly place to be. Highly recommended!

I ate at Taro 2 recently and it has been refurbished. The decor has a fresh feel.
The food is very good value and tasty. One of my favourite is chicken teriyaki don - highly recommended. Service is quick and fast - ideal for grabbing a quick bite. If you are after an intimate bite then this isn't the best place because the tables are very close together.
