Went a vouple of das ago and it's all I can talk about. Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. What more could I ask for!?! Would recommend this reaturant to anyone who loves proper food, nothing is messed with, no prissy/twiddly bits, just what is says on the tin/menu. Great wine list, meal for two plus wine and a glass of bubbly under a hundred quid!!! Wicked.

I went to Hereford Road recently and for a mid-week was surprised just how busy the restaurant was. Once I got to experience the service I began to understand why, I began to wonder if our meal was ever to end.......

The food was, well, exactly what it says on the tin, good, basic ingredients cooked reasonably traditionally.

The service was inordinately slow and appeared a bit shambolic, but the waiting staff were all very pleasant, although ours didn't appear to have eaten anything off the menu and we didn't choose items that hadn't been on the menu for the past few weeks, which I find hard to understand. How can they inform if they have no experience?

The acoustics in the restaurant make it very noisy as all conversations around you are amplified.

Not bad value for money, but all of my party agreed we won't rush back.

Went to Hereford Road last night for dinner and was extremely impressed, particulary with the food.

The food is very British using cheap cuts of meat but doing something special with them. As I am a big fan of this sort of thing it was the perfect place for me. They seem to have been very senisble with the menu and all dishes are easy to put together during service which helps to make things very smooth with no long waits, eventhough the place was absolutely packed. We had the Mutton Broth and Smoked Eel to start, both very good and then Hare Leg and Red Led Partridge to follow. The Hare in particular was just wonderful as was the Partridge with no food evny but lots of sharing. They also do Oxtail for two to share and Lamb Shoulder for 3 or 4 people. We decided we need to encourage friends back so we can have the Shoulder!

It is also very reasonably priced. We had three courses each with two bottles of wine and two extra glasses of wine and the bill was just over £100 which for the amount of wine we had I thought was very good value indeed. The only one complaint I have is that the wines on the list didn't quite meet my expectations, the two different bottles we had were abit thin which considering one was a Chianti and one was a Bordeaux was a bit dissappointing but prehaps I choose badly.

This is a wonderful local Restaurant and I hope is does very, very well.

Food Snob

Food Snob

Friday, November 14, 2008 - The menu, following St. John maxim, changes twice a day and dish descriptions are minimalistic. It is full of simple, seasonal recipes bursting with adventurous, tasty yet generally discarded and humble ingredients - though rather fashionable right now - along with roasted joints. Today, calves’ head and pig’s trotters featured: nose-to-tail eating indeed. I am no stranger, but a big fan of such funny things, having grown up on them. Thus, I was spoilt for choice.
