This place is a true find in London. I will never return to mediocre indian restaurants in Brick Lane or central. You find fantastic service and the best food at East is East. Try the lollipop chicken and fish speciality for starters and follow up with a grill and some butter chicken for mains. As good as Tayaabs but without the long queues. Highly recommended for a true indian food.

I have only eaten take-away food from East Is East, delivered to my home, but this I have done on many occasions and it has always been delicious. I particularly recommend the Lamb Rogan Josh. Delivery is always within the time frame indicated when ordering and the food always arrives hot. For three the bill normally comes to around £25, with pleanty of food for all.

Hopefully soon I'll get around to actually visiting the restaurant!

I have visited East is East on a number of occasions, and love the food. True, the ambience is not that great, the room being very brightly lit with a high ceiling and whitewashed walls, yes a bit like a hospital ward (only cleaner), and the service is indifferent.

The food however is truly excellent, with generous portions and some fabulous specialities. The lamb chops are to die for. Wonderful home made breads. Yummy Dall.

It makes a very pleasant change from the cramped, over-hyped and well below average slop available down the road in Brick Lane - curry for tourists!

Went there tonight after a recommendation from a friend and the reviews also made me feel very postive.

But never has a trip to the East of London be so wasted. Every single restaurant on Brick Lane would have been better. The food was distincly average, the waiters were rude and unattentive to the point where we started waving a napkin to get their attention.

For a Saturday night the space was very empy with only another two tables booked and overall very sparcely decorated. One feels like in a hospital. Don't go there unless you fancy mediocre food and don't mind very basic decor.

This restaurant has excellent food and very friendly service. I have ordered the take away from here on many nights and it has always been great. I would highly recommend the Biryani and the lamb chops.

We absolutely love this place. The food is amazing and plentiful, especially for Veggies. Definitely try out their house specialties, especially the Dal Makhani (its out of this world)! The staff are attentive, service is great and the ambience is lovely. They even deliver to homes and offices nearby, great for late nights at work in the city. You must give this a place a try!

I live in the area and am a regular at a number of restaurants around Commerrical Road -- but East is East is in a completely different league -- seriously classy, beautifully cooked food, "Southall quality" subtlety in the spicing. This place is a step change up in the neighbourhood (yes Rajistan cafe is kind of cute and experimental but, please, they just don't know have a clue about cooking). But will East is East survive? It was pretty empty when I went there and, passing by on the bus, I don't see many people inside. PLEASE VISIT if you live anywehere near in the East End and MAKE A VISIT here if you don't. Forget Brick Lane: that is dog food by comparison. This is quality. By the way, I recommend the lamb dhaba curry but if you like all the stuff with cream, then that seems to be more than OK here as well (big prawns, good sag etc). Wine is surpirsingly OK too.

The food was amazing, the waiters attentive even though the restaurant was buzzing and the surprise arrival of the belly dancers was an unexpected bonus. They shimmied their way through the restaurant inviting customers to dance with then without being insistent and were friendly and a very attractive diversion! We will certainly be going back again soon.
