I took my fiancee to Lamberts on Friday evening for a pre brithday meal. I've read the reviews on a number of occasions and always wanted to try it. Well it was one of the best meals we've eaten in a long time and one of the best dining experiences too. The food was absolutely delicious, (the signature dish of the different 'sheep' was exquisite) the service excellent and the general atmosphere of the restaurant perfect for couples or a bigger party. We will definitely be going back, and taking others with us. Just wish I'd discovered it sooner!

Fantastic as a Restaurant in the Evening, but a complete nightmare if you want a quiet Sunday lunch without screaming Kids and Parents who haven't learnt how to control their little darlings. The parents could do better to spend their money on training their children to behave properly or take them to McDonalds (2 Mins walk.) It's a pity the resaturant supports children running around creating havoc. Surely a Health and Safety concern for the hardworking staff carrying hot plates and sharp cutlery?
Please note this is my review for Sunday lunch and does not reflect the superlative evening cuisine at other times. I am not anti children, but in a restaurant like Lamberts, "Children should be seen and not heard."
I did express my concerns at the time, but the chief waitress seemed more concerend about appeasing screaming chidren.

We went to Lamberts for lunch today (Sunday) after reading the mostly favourable reviews on this website. We telephoned in advance to see if a table was available and were told to come at 3pm as some large parties were booked in at 1pm and 1.30pm and we would have a long wait for our food. We had the 3 course lunch at £20 and found it to be good value for the money. I don't know what I was expecting the Cuttlefish and cockle Saffron stew to be but not the tiny portion of smooth fish soup that it was although it was lovely tasting. The roasts were good and so were the desserts. The wine was delicious at a very reasonable 15.50. We were overall very happy although I can't normally manage three courses I could here as the portions were small and not so highly flavoured as at some more expensive establishments where although you haven't eaten very much but feel full. My only criticism would be the lack of bread provided or petit fours with coffee. Still, I would return.

Enjoyed the excellent quality meat dishes, especially the loi of roe deer.
Relaxed dining, but the staff make an effort to inform you of exactly what you are eating. Felt the suggestions for drink accompniaments with certain dishes were helpful.
Deserves continued success.

Haven't been to Lamberts for over two years and it was as good as I remembered. The service is great, perfectly combining friendliness with professionalism. The food is superb - not cheap (£90 for 2) but decent value for the standard of cooking - and it's a nicely buzzing atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.

It was with some anxiety that I returned to Lamberts last night after a year long absence; having read the most recent review which suggested that it may have gone downhill and I am very happy to report that this is not the case.
I started with the Cuttlefish and Cockle Saffron Stew, which was a delight on an icy February evening and followed this up with one of my favourite cuts - slow roasted pork belly with green lentils and creamed leeks. Delicious!!
To accompany the meal we had a bottle of the Mitchells Peppertree Shiraz which literally washed all my anxieties away.
There really is no finer place to eat in Balham and I will continue to evangelise about Lamberts to everyone I meet.

I went to Lamberts with a group of 4. I was very disappointed after reading earlier reviews. The fois gras and pheseant terrine to start was very pleasent. The lamb dish for main was nice but not £17 worth of nice. And Raseberry souflee for desert which was ok, a little bland perhaps. This seemed to sum up the meal 'hmm nice' 'pleasent'. There was nothing terrible about it but it was far from fantastic. I thought it was poor value for money and I love the £8.00 cheese board, I imagine they must use surgical impliments to cut the cheese so thinly. Oh and if you insist on going dont have the cheese cake for pudding, 2 members of my party had it and it was so dry they were choking on it. I would not go back, distinctly average.
