Dined here as part of a work meal on Friday night with 8 others. Arrived early for drinks at the bar but was rather dissappointed with their beer and cider collection. Only one beer I had never heard of on tap.

Went and sat down after about half an hour when all of our party had arrived. As soon as we sat down one of the two Eastern European waitresses asked "Do you want your starters now?" which I found rather rude. They delivered our starters almost immediately and shouted around the table to ask who was having what. Again, not the best servce.

The food itself was okay; I started with the salmon and haddock fishcake that I chose from the set 3 course menu for £22.50. My main was traditional turkey with "all" the trimmings. No Yorkshire pudding, not the best. I had Cristmas pudding with custard for sweet and it was the smallest I had ever seen.

I'm glad I didn't pay for my own as I don't feel the price tag of the meal overall was justified.

I've been there once and found it very average so no reason to go back for me.

We were a party of 11 people on a xmas works do last night . I thought the green would be a good Idea , how wrong I was . The food is great , this cannot be faulted , although my husbands smoked duck with lardons , came out without the duck , when I queried , the manager who was a cross between a sweaty basil fawlty and manuel scurried off to find out , but never came back with an explanation . It was the behaviour of the manager which ruined our night . He was so under pressure that he rushed about at such speed one could not relax , when he bought food to our table he shouted out the dish in order to identify who was having what .it was like being in a canteen , not a nice restaurant . On top of this when we got the bill they added another 4 more bottles of wine ! We had to find our table , no one greeted us and took us over to it , we had to chase up waiter on drinks as no one offered , and likewise with the bread . \Plus I was chased by the restaurant for pre orders , which I emailed through , when we got there they had not received and therefore alot of the menu we selected was not available . this place is very average , no ambience , and the staff look overstretcfhed beyon belief , which just makes you feel rushed and hurried , one thing i hate in a restaurant .

6 of us eat there on Say Dec. 1st 2007.

The food was average but the service was terrible. Probably the worst service I have had in years. Firstly, they got our order wrong, brought our food to each of us at different times, including my friend who received his main course 25minutes after the rest of us. The bill was incorrect and took three times for them to get it right. The staff could not care less - totally up their own $%&*!. The entire meal was an hour too long because of the inept staff. I will never, ever be going there again!

A large group of us ate here and the food was very good, a bit pricey but good. The service was appalling. The food was staggered as it was brought out, so we didn't all eat together, the waiters etc.. didn't seem in the slightest bit bothered. Nobody asked whether we were enjoying the food etc.. and getting somebody to come to the table was a joke. We were then charged 10% service charge for the pleasure. This was such a shame as the food was great but I wouldn't eat here again.

I too cannot fault The Green, although I only use the bar area for snacking and a glass of wine while I read the Sunday papers. I would however point out that their phone number is a 10 p a minute number charged to the customer which is a bit rich if you ask me, talk about a hidden booking fee if you phone up for a table.

I've decided to write about the Green because I've read all these poor reviews and I feel that I should defend the place. I live just around the corner and have been 3 or 4 times and have had nothing but excellent food and great service. Last time we went was probably the best yet, we had the asparagus to start which was amazing and my girlfriend had the fish which she can't wait to have again and I had the vegetarian strogonoff which was delightful.

I'd thouroughly recommend The Green to anyone, ignore all the negative comments below....

I'm afraid Jean was a great manager and he launched this place with Robert. The standard of the service was great , but it seems he is not working any more

The Green is a fantastic venue for local, Art and Music

In short this place is horrendous - mainly due to the supercilious, rude staff. Jean, the manager, is snobbish and has made many cock ups on the occasions I have been. I don't go anymore as I find the service so, so bad.

I have to add to the mixed reviews of this place. I have been here at the weekend and had a lovely meal in a great atmosphere.

My last experience left a lost to be desired, mainly due to one very rude waitress. Firstly, she stood over us for quite a while as we were choosing the wine, making us feel rushed and uncomfortable, and we had to ask her to let us think and come back. When we ordered our mains, she did not seem to know what came with them, and consequently we ordered far too many vegetables, which we did not really need, and she later seemed to think it amusing by commenting on the amount of food we had on our table.

I was eating my starter when the same waitress came over and took my partner’s plate away, as he had finished, and asked if I had finished. My plate still had food on it and I had a knife and fork in my hand. I told her quite clearly, no. It felt like we were in a transport café.

I carried on finishing my starter when only a short while later, again, the waitress came over again and asked If I had finished. I told her no, I was still eating. She told us the main course was coming out. I told her I hadn’t finished my starter yet, and pointed to my plate, which I had nearly finished, and asked could we not wait until I had. She just said our main courses were coming out. With that, she turned back to the kitchen and the main course came out (with the taking away of one plate and the immediate replacing with another!) We were literally gob smacked by this treatment.

They can’t have been keen for the table because there were only four other occupied tables!

I gave the restaurant the opportunity to comment on the experience by writing to them via email them at their website but despite following it up, I got no acknowledgement or response.

The menu is varied and the food is good, it is such a shame that the attitude of some staff attitude lets them down.

A group of us went here for a saturday birthday lunch and quite honestly, what should have been a fun, happy afternoon was ruined by the constant stream of rude staff. Everything we asked for was a chore, met with rolling eyes and sighing - and we definately will never be going back. The service was the worst i have ever experienced in the 10 years i have been in london - if you want value for money and service with a smile, there are pleny of other eateries in dulwich. Dreadful place.
