Don't count on this place if you have a family. It used to be friendly, but now they will only accommodate you when it suits them. We were told that there had been complaints about kids being noisy (not our kids in particular) in the restaurant, but they would be happy for us to come in the afternoon when they weren't busy. Doesn't help much when you're looking for lunch!

We weren't turned away exactly, but what are you supposed to do in the circumstances? It's difficult for kids to eat with their mouths taped shut! So we left. Maybe diners without kids will applaud, but they should stop pretending that they care about those of us that do.

Food is so-so: sometimes good, sometimes poor. But they are increasingly taking their clientele for granted because they have a captive market. I hope some enterprising restauranteur will come and give them a run for their money.

As a foodie person I personally think food was great, amazing place. Very friendly service. I Had the soup to start it was quite fascinating, smoke chilli soup and my partner had the scallop, well executed.

For main I had fish with chorizo dauphinoise it was adorable presentation excellent and the toad in a hole.

Pretty good wine.

I will fully recommend this restaurant to anyone, it won't dissapoint.

We usually eat here in the evening, but due to the wall to wall football over the last couple of weeks we have been watching the matches & getting take aways.

On Sunday morning, not being able to sleep though a combination of heat and excitement, my husband took me here for breakie. I myself not a big breakfast person, really enjoyed the whole thing, food was great, atmosphere fab and totally relaxing, footie songs played gently in the background to get us in the mood, totally enjoyable.

Shame the same thing can't be said about the 3pm kick off. :-(

I have eaten here quite a few times and am going again today. Have always had friendly service, the food is reasonably priced, well presented and good value. When they found out it was my birthday (in my 50s so I didnt say) I got a chocolate brownie cake with a sparkler in it brought to the table with a Happy Birthday song played. It actually made my day, so thoughtful . Even my kids, aged from 16 to 28 were impressed (and it takes a lot to impress them). Its not Gordon Ramsay (thank goodness) but its friendly, reasonably priced, clean and a great place to have. Long may they continue.

Visited here for the first time on Friday night. Nice decor and decent atmosphere. Service was good but felt the staff were under some pressure to make us spend more money. They seemed generally mystified when we didn't order starters or side dishes and must have asked a dozen times if we were sure. Ten minutes later we were informed that we wouldn't be getting our food for 45 minutes and that we should now order starters! We again declined to the waitresses obvious displeasure. The food came about 15 minutes later not the threatened 45!!

As for the food - They had no real starter menu just a choice of what looked like bar snacks - who wants a portion of chips as a starter? very bizarre.

My steak was excellent although I asked for it rare and it came blue but was of such good quality It was not a problem. Everyone else's food was also very good. Desserts were average,

Honestly, the food is not very good. It's OK for a local restaurant but the service absolutely is not.

Once I'd finished my first drink, I was left without a drink for the rest of the meal. The waiter cleared my glass when he delivered my food so he should really have asked. His boss would probably take a dim view of him not taking the opportunity to up my bill as well.

Dirty menus, staff standing around chatting yet being too busy to meet and greet were other service fails. I'm forgiving enough to look past these things in cheap local joints but in a swanky designer setting such as this, I'd expect 'West End' service standards.

If the service were better, I'd be more forgiving of flaws in the cooking.

I don't mean to be nasty. This place is actually OK buy it would seem to have rather a high opinion of itself

I was very disappointed with the food.

The food was OK but I thought over priced for what it was and nothing in particularly special, but the organic drinks were nice.

The service I felt poor and a tad snobby waiter.

I was with my other student friends and we felt pre-judged before we even ordered anything.

My office is just up the road from EAT 17 and I take clients there often, we have always had great service, staff very friendly, and the food has always been delicious, I have no complaints at all.

They have now opened the garden again and it is super to be able to eat outdoors in lovely surroundings.

They have worked so hard to get this restaurant right and I feel they have succeeeded, well done to all.

Since this place became Eat 17 it’s morphed from a slightly strange “waffle house” concept restaurant, in to a fully-fledged dining experience and is all the better for it. Starters and mains are reasonably priced and very well presented - I had an excellent steak and my partner had a superb fish dish. The desert selection is small but very tasty. The wine list is okay, but could do with a couple more additions. My wife is a fan of the cocktails and the bar area, like the rest of the restaurant has a very cool ambiance. The waiting staff are young but very friendly and knowledgably about the dishes and the service they provided us is equal to any West End joint. Money wise, Eat is very competitively priced – a meal for two is under 50 quid, but you never feel like quality has been sacrificed for the sake of keeping the bill down.

Eat 17 has been criticised very unfairly on this web site in my opinion. The owners have bought a really great concept, high standards, good food, friendly service and a nicely designed ‘space’ to a slightly down at heal part of London. And it is all the better for it!
