I have been to Eat17 a few times. The burgers are very good (and big) but the chips that come with them are not the best. The prices are ok-ish but the service can be chaotic (or very chaotic). I will try again...

i've already written a review on this place and have given it several more chances after their new chef supposedly started but i have to say that the food hasn't improved and the prices seem as or more expensive than the west end. they have now put all the prices up which, when they cannot seem to get it right in the first place, is a liberty! i will probably avoid this place now and just go back to getting on the tube to islington like i used to before it opened. far too many chances for too many disappointments...

My colleagues and I went to this restaurant for lunch today. We have eaten there for lunch on a number of occasions, but began to notice a diminishing level of service, portion sizes and value for money. Apparently, as today is Monday and they close at 4 p.m., they were only able to provide a limited menu. As such, we ordered believing the choices, although limited, would be satisfying. Unfortunately the Greek salad that myself and my colleague ordered was frighteningly small and cost us £6 each. My other colleague ordered the ploughman's sandwich and was understandably disappointed with his cheese and pickle sandwich on flimsy white bread. When we complained to the waitress, she simply stated it was a special menu and walked away. I had to go across the road to get another salad to fill me up. We are disappointed that such a lovely venue is now a place we will hesitate to dine at in future.

I've been here many times since it opened as it's one of the only places in the village that is easy for a quick bite to eat and/or coffee as well as being child friendly. i've found the food has been hit and miss but when it's good, it is pretty good so i keep on going back. unfortunately nice cafe type places in the stow are few and far between, if this place were in islington i probably would have given up but as it's all we've got for day time casual dining, i continue to patronise it - i do hope that doesn't make them complacent... i'm really pleased to see there is a new chef as the last meal i had there wasn't the best.. i'm going for lunch tomorrow with my in-laws and i hope to see the improvement that the owner was talking about as they are extremely fussy! Aside from that and if nothing else i absolutely love the deli next door which is a part of eat 17 and is a very welcome relief for the stow. the cakes are delicious (and now reasonably priced) and the bread and other bits and pieces i've tried from there have been fabulous.

My name is Chris and I (along with my brothers James & Dan and Siobhan) run eat 17. Can I firstly say how much it hurts to read these comments and let you know that every criticism is taken very seriously.

Ok, I know this won't change the experience that you, your husband and step-daughter had, but there has been one factor which has really damaged the food at eat 17 on some occasions and that is our head chef. I hate making excuses, but he went from being top-notch to terrible! On the night that you ate here, he actually walked out on us after being here for a year (since we opened actually). Luckily, we have our new head chef starting today, who we've waited months for. He is amazing! He's been head chef in a 3 michelin star restaurant for 24 years! as well as Hard Rock Cafe in London and loads of others! He's an incredibly talented and experienced chef and exactly what we've been looking for to sharpen up our product.

Please, please get in touch with me if you read this posting, as I would love to change your mind and have yourself, husband and daughter back again to try our new summer menu as of June 2nd. And that goes for kladski, debe17, happylondonguy, goosey, mike s and anyone else who has had a bad experience here. Please give us another chance and we won't let you down. My email is chris@eat17.co.uk if you would like to contact me directly. Please accept our sincere apologies for your bad experience at eat 17.

Sadly there are no stars for an appalling performance this evening. Myself, husband and step daughter went for a simple plate of cold cuts and main courses; two of burgers and one of chicken. It took 25 minutes for the cold cuts to come; 25 minutes to plate up already sliced meats from the deli next door and another few for me to walk back inside and request the bread. After this we waited another 40 to be told, without apology, that the 'chef had a problem with his eyes' and one of the burgers had been missed. Would we wait for all the food to come together? Yes please- is that really a question?! 10 minutes later we were told that it would be 5 minutes. 15 minutes later we walked. On our way out we were waved off with 'Do you want that to go?' and not a hint of an apology (we left £20 for drinks and starter - we are not that graceless). We have tried to love this place; we have patronised it many times, breakfast, lunch, tea, juices on the way to the gym, lattes on the way to work - there's no community spirit when you get treated like that. Frankly if the fantastic Irish maitre d' isn't in charge (not to mention the even more industrious juice queen) this place just falls apart. The maitre d' hopefully will read this and make amends to future customers. Long live the Village Kitchen, Orford Tapas and the absolutely faultless La Ruga - Eat 17 you have become far too complacent with hollow adoration from hangover casualties and young families that aren't welcome elsewhere by failing to look after the people that will really keep you going in booze and 3 course meal covers. Wise up.

I've eaten in this restaurant numerous times over the year or so its been opened and the service has got worse and worse over time.

Popped in for breakfast last Saturday - it wasn't that busy but we waited for an unreasonable length of time to order and then for our food. Despite the fact a waitress walked past us 3 times telling us she would take our order in a minute! The irony is the waiter whipped our plates away the second we had finished eating - rather too quickly.

We were aware of other customers complaining around us too.

It's a shame as the food is lovely but can't make up for the unpleasant feeling you have when you leave this place. I'll give this place a wide berth until I hear they have sorted it out.

A friend and I went to this restaurant for the first time this Sunday at around 2pm. We were pretty shocked at how awful the food was. We ordered two gourmet burgers and to be honest we might as well have bought them from a burger van, the burger buns were cheap and stale, the burgers were tiny and unappetising with a tiny bit of green salad on the side which was almost black and slimy, the chips were under cooked and soggy. We told the waitress the food was awful but she just smiled and did nothing about it. We won't be going back again and cannot recommend it.

I’m not a fussy eater and I have never left a message on one of these sites before. My terrible dining experience at this restaurant has led me to source this restaurant online and warn other potential diners.

My partner and I ordered two main courses and waited 50 minutes. That was fine as I’m happy to wait but it did become the theme of the night. My partner ordered the sausage and mash - two of the sausages were inedible. Three diners around us also complained about their food. The waiter must have been experienced in this situation as he happily accepted the negative feedback and did nothing about it on all occasions!

We were then left for a considerable period of time after our plates had been cleared to order pudding. We ordered pudding after a prolonged period of time our waitress said she would try and find out what was going on but seemed to have forgotten as she avoided our table as much as possible. We left after 45 mins and went to pay. No explanation was offered by the waiter (again lots of bland smiling) but then there was a queue of people waiting to complain.

There were three other parties surrounding our table and all three made complaints!!! This is not a coincidence. This is a shame - the menu is promising and the décor beautiful. I hope that the owner reads this and can pick up this shambles of a restaurant. I felt really cross after this dining trauma.

Food - awful, if it arrives

Service - awful, awful, awful - with a bland smile

Value for money – we were robbed.

Advice - avoid like the plague.

We have had lunch here before and dinner, lunch was quite nice and dinner okay, but this was a while back..

However a few weeks ago we went in on a Sunday at around 6pm, a couple of tables were occupied. The restaurant was quite chilly, this had also been noted before.

I ordered fish and chips. The batter was hard and the fish almost non-existent. The chips were not edible.

When the waitress cleared our table, I was asked was everything okay, I obviously said no & told her why, she just smiled and quite happily cleared away without another word.

At 7pm we were paying the bill, when a party of about six came in and asked for a table. (On the door they state that they close at 8pm on a Sunday) They were turned away and told that the restaurant was now closed. They just all looked at one and other in disbelief and walked out.

In the summer they were packed out and a good place for people with children to go, but I hope they do not just rely on that.

We are really disappointed, because we thought this was another good option for eating in the village.

I only hope the owner reads these reviews and sorts things out.

By the way, the cheese sauce should definitely not be cold.
