Matthew Norman - 5/10

Monday, March 07, 2011 - A veal chop was grilled to a perfect, pale rose finish, but the meat was dry and dull. Squab pigeon came with a foie gras sauce, which seemed a bit belt-and-braces on the richness front. Pyrenean lamb came in two cuts, both immaculately cooked and full of flavour - confit shoulder in delicate slices and a whacking great lump of neck roasted and stuffed with aubergine caviar...I shivered when the bill arrived, and we left this oligarch's paradise determined to remain strangers until Doomsday at the earliest.

Good service, but the portions are so small! Don't be hungry if you go there.

Amazing service and amazing food. One of the best meals I've had. 10 out of 10.

We were here on a Friday night 12 people) . We all were very satisfied with the ambience, the food and the presentation. I haven't eaten like this for a long time. Every single one of us was happy with the starter, the main and the dessert.

I'm very very pleased and I will definitely come back.

Definitely a restaurant for locals, who do not venture for nice food and dont mind paying overpriced food, but the early bird option tempted us...and it is fun to try...

We were a party of 6 for early bird option - 5 mins before time up we were reminded of the cut off time (since we were waiting for our last guest to arrive, I almost felt they were going to tell me the last guest will have to order at la carte...).

Four us went for 3 courses and two went for 2 courses - but we were charged for six lots 3 courses (are the waiters too clever to think we would NOT notice this over charging).

Not impressed with waiter that decides to pile our group with a side order each - 3 sides for sharing would have been sufficient ! My dish came with mash already - 2 others has sushi rice with mains....!!! ah would they want truffle mash (i think NOT), still we were too polite and continued with the recommendation !

This is just not recommendable. We were there a few weeks ago with a large group. Our table was not available on time. It took them ages to get it finally sorted. The menu looks good, but this is the only positive thing about the restaurant. The portions are very little...and are certainly not worth their price.

I will never ever go back!!

It was cold and we were hungry; menu looked good from outside, but mediocre when served. They asked us to leave by 9 o'clock (due to more reservations) and even though the restaurant was still half empty by 9, they prompted us 3 times to leave. Poulet farcie was horrible.

I can not recommend this place.

I really agree with the Good Food Guide that l'etranger is the best restaurant in London. It's just amazing, i have never been let down by the high standards they set themselves for more then eight years now. We celebrated my birthday with a bottle of Cristal 2002 for £190.00. Without a doubt the cheapest Cristal in the world.

Food good but is the price justified - NO!

Didnt like the pushy approach on arrival to try to get us to have a glass of outrageously expensive champagne.

Bottled water poured into our glasses without us being asked if we wanted it. Then charged £4.50 a bottle.

Only one menu on the table; had to ask for menus

Asked for early bird menu and was told too late. This then changed when we pointed out - as we had checked the website before going - that we were still within the time.

Would we visit again; no there are plenty more restaurants in London with food of this standard at better prices.

Great restaurant for ambiance and the food is fantastic. Sadly despite the efforts of all staff and management the Sommelier was (again) awful. This is the 4th time we dined there and on each occasion he has proved to be rude and sloppy whilst pouring wine with splashed all over the table cloth. I guess ordering any wine under £100/bottle upsets the guy. We complained to the manager at his attitude again on this occassion and were advised that an alternative Sommelier had been recruited to assist this one. We were subsequently served by the new one who was great. As if to add insult to injury our wine bill included 4 glasses fo Champagne at £58 which we did not order or receive - check your bill.
