Dined at Loch Fyne Loughton last night Nov 2011, with a party of six. The food was very disappointing, lacked any seasoning and the portions of food were very small. The starters were ok although the Smoked Beef starter arrived with no Beef. The service was quite appalling and throughout the course of the night we had empty glasses piling up on our table where they had never been collected. Eventually we collected all the glasses ourselves as there was no space left on our table. Whenever our glass was empty we had to attract the attention of staff to ask for another drink and sometimes when asking we were ignored. Our total bill came to nearly £300.00 in which a £30.00 service charge was added at the customer’s discretion. We refused to pay this service charge amount but did however leave a smaller tip, although a £0 tip would have been more appropriate. After refusing to pay the service charge the waitress just simply strugged and never asked why? Overall experience of restaurant, very average food, overpriced and bad service.

Dined at Loch Fyne in Loughton on a Thursday for dinner… the décor is very fresh and airy, it has a clinical whilst cosy feel. The service was fast and friendly, greeted with smiles and left smiling! The food was fresh, simple and delicious, potted shrimp with mace butter to start…. Lovely! I was greedy and had the crab and shellfish platter for two all to myself… it was worth it with a nice bottle of champagne! One little complaint, not enough queen scallops. My partner has the steamed fillet of sea bass with king scallops…. That was wonderful too and of course I shared the platter. This is a brilliant chain, about time London had an accessible seafood chain that one can visit over and over again. I will endeavour to visit the others, I hope the service and food is as impeccable as Loughton. Keep up the good standards!!
