We visited the restaurant on a week day early evening and received a great welcome, great service and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We would definitely return.

Very poky and cramped. The 2 for 1 pizza deal is not good value, It had very little topping and arrived with NO CHEESE! I mean I ask you a pizza with no cheese? The service charge was £4.50 which turned out to be a big surprise. We spent nearly £25 for the pizza deal, 1 portion of chips and a coke each. A complete rip off. Never again.

My mother, brother and I popped into Cafe Mode on the off-chance of getting a table at the very busy pre-theatre time. The place was packed but we were lucky that some people left as we arrived and we got one of the best tables in the place. The service was quick and efficient and the food (all a la carte, mains and puds, no pizza!) was great. We were made to feel welcome and were not rushed in any way. Our collective verdict was that we would definitely add it to our list of eating options in London.

I must admit to being puzzled by the other reviews. Some reflect our experience and the same number seem to say the opposite. Whatever, I'll be back.

I went to this restaurant on a Saturday evening and used my Taste London card. I ordered the calamari which was ok, the main disappointment was the main which was a beef burger. I went to order the goats cheese burger as love goats cheese but was told that it did not have any meat in it. They then told me that they would put a beef burger in with it. When it arrived, it was just a big block of goats cheese shoved on a dry beef burger. I have never eaten anything so dry!

My friend ordered a chicken burger and it was badly cooked, we sent it back and it was the same! No apologies!

Will definately not be eating here again!

4 of us went to Cafe Mode after receiving two 2 for 1 voucher on their pizzas. However I was not hungry and only planned on ordering a drink, while my friends wanted to buy two pizzas, and a burger.

We had an extremely rude waitress, whos English was not very good either, and she claimed that as it was a restaurant, we each had to order a meal. I have never heard of such a 'rule', and I have been to many restaurants where some of us haven't had a meal. After explaining that I am just not hungry, she said that if we are not all ordering a meal then 'they have no table for us' and rudely snatched the menu out of my hand.

I have never experienced such rude service in a restaurant and am still shocked. If she carries on acting like that towards more customers then they will lost a lot of business. She should be fired. And judging by the other reviews on here, they rip you off and I am glad we left before ordering any food.

I would not recommend Cafe Mode to anybody, ever.

Potentially one of the worst places to eat. We went on a Saturday night and expected a lively atmosphere and good food- little did we know that the staff would be playing music incredibly loud, on a loop and in the spirit of a 1990s 18-30s holiday. The food was ok, but it was clear that the staff were more interested in having a good time then actually working. The high point was that the food was served incredibly fast, the low point was the waiter that kept switching the lights up and down (and ditto the music). I suspect this place won't be winning awards for service anytime soon... the ivy can relax.

PS- Wine was really bad!

We visited Cafe Mode on a busy Friday night before going to the Shaftesbury Theatre, which is just across the road. I did book and tell them we had to be at the theatre by 7.30pm. I must say they were very friendly and helpful. The food and wine were good and the atmosphere was very friendly!

Having worked and lived in London for many years and experienced many different restaurants and cafes, I would have to say that this was possibly one of the worst I have been too.

The staff, although polite whilst showing you to your seat, paid little attention to us throughout the course of the meal and didn't seem to have any grasp of English when I had to complain that part of the main course had not been brought out with the rest of the main meal. Infact once I had requested a menu to point out the missing parts of the meals, I was told "of course, it is under the grill". The missing portions of our meals arrived after a further 15 minutes without an apology and pretty much dumped on the table.

I had to ask for everything (which included cutlery!). The warm bottle of water left on the table is sneaky as it is charged to the customer, however, when you are thirsty and have no drinks because they have "forgotten" you have to drink something.

It is just as well that they included their service charge as I don't believe they would be left any! Had it not been my parents anniversary, I would have demanded the service charge back so poor was the service.

This Cafe is trying to be something it isn't. It provides burger van service but charges restaurant prices.

I'd wager that "Jim's" review was written by one of the staff. It misses the point of my previous review.

To be clear, I was not surprised about the EXISTENCE of a service charge. However, I *was* surprised at the LEVEL of the service charge. It was 12.5% of the bill BEFORE applying the food discount (2-for-1). When you apply a 12.5% service charge to the bill BEFORE the 50% discount (which is what a 2-for-1 deal is), the effective service charge becomes 25% (12.5% ÷ 50% = 25%). A service charge of 25% is very steep, in my opinion.

The pizzas were strictly mediocre, and were overpriced to reflect the discount. I think it's not good policy to increase your regular prices just so you can offer a big discount. It makes your patrons feel ripped off, which is exactly why I went to the trouble of writing the review.

The service was indeed "wery" attentive ... until it was completely and suddenly absent. And by the way I am unfailingly polite to restaurant staff because I think they have some of the worst jobs imaginable.

Listen, you have a decent cafe there, and I'm sure some of your clients love it. But to lodge a bogus review is just asking for a rebuttal.

We had booked a table for 8 people, for the special Christmas Menu. Two days before we were told we each had to pay a £10 deposit, as a security, as there was a long waiting list for tables for that evening. As we had previously been let down by another restaurant, we agreed in order to secure the booking.

As one person could not make it due to the snow, and two people were ill, we called early on the day and told the restaurant we would now be 5 people, and not 8. They still took the deposit for 8 people, despite being notified in advance the numbers would be reduced, and three quarters of the restaurant being empty!!

We were squeezed into the smallest possible space you could imagine. Some of the food was cold, and the roast potatoes were undercooked. Bottles of water were already on the table, and were charged extra for these – it should have really been pointed out these were not complimentary.

Mediocre experience all round. Never going back, and would not recommend to anyone.
