The Spencer Arms

I had my 30th birthday meal at the Spencer Arms and I highly recommend it. Without fail everyone commented on how amazing the food was (and this was in a group of 25 people!). They were very helpful with my requirements in terms of seating plans and arrival times etc.
The staff were very pleasant and helpful and we all had a fantastic evening.
I also think the food was very fairly priced and totally disagree with the other comments on the this site.
Definitely worth a visit!

A very good - though flawed - gastropub. First the good stuff: you'll find a nice simple menu here (no more than four or five main courses) all of which are creative, tasty and well cooked. Some of the main courses are really delicious, and the sides are always fresh. There's now also a very nice atmosphere - the pub was tastefully redecorated a few years back and it's successfully left behind its former identity as a hangout for rugby-shirted noise polluters.
On the downside, the service is poor. This isn't the fault of the serving staff, who are polite and do their best, but when the place is any more than half full there are simply far too few of them. Also, the starters and desserts - although just as good as the mains - are far too expensive. This makes a three-course meal far pricier than it should be given the quality of the food.
Overall though I recommend the place, especially if you fancy skipping the starter.
