Unfortunatly Madhu's did not live up to any of our expectations, myself and my wife were dining there with friends of ours from London and felt almost embarrased at how poor the service was.

The food was a little on the oily side and lacked any real indian flavours.

The chicken may as well have come Tesco's ready meals section in Southall as there would not have been any difference except for the price.

The prices were on the higher end but were not justified by the food or service.

Will definatly not be going back or recommending to others.

If you wish to truly experience fine indian dining and reasonable prices i would try elsewhere.

I visited for the first time a couple of days ago, with my wife and friends. Right away, let me say that food-wise it sits in the top quartile of Indian restaurants I've eaten at- and thats a few. The food is fairly innovative and their take on "standards" seemed interesting and full-flavoured. Prices are a little higher than average , but not outrageous, and the decor decent.

The service was somewhat slow and a little self-possessed. They are keen- perhaps too keen - sell you another beer, or more naan or whatever. They seem much less keen to do the basics like give you a food menu before they take a drinks order, to take your order or get the food to the table reasonably promptly. The servers are perfectly pleasant- its just that, well, their priorities are not entirely the same as the diners' . Still I liked the food well enough to go back, and I'd suggest that others who might be a a little jaded by the sameness of food in many Indian restaurants might consider it too. If on the other hand what you're looking for is familiarity at bargain prices, and out in under the hour, then this isn't it.

Parking isn't easy.

What can we say except totally dissapointed, the food was ordinary at best

and the service was stuck up and arrogant.

Decor was very much mutton dressed up as lamb and talking of lamb

it was dry and lacked any real flavour, its a good job they are tight with the

portions.

Trying to convince people that this is a top london restaurant by charging london

prices is not a good idea.

will definatly not be returning or recommending to anyone.

After seeing the pretentious decor, which sticks out like a sore thumb in Southal..we decided to give this restaurant a go, thinking that maybe the plush interior would reflect in the cuisine, boy were we ever wrong,

Budget ingredients, cooked to a mere domestic level, could have done better myself,

the staff however, fail to understand this, and prance around, as though it were fine dining...On the whole, a dissapointment to say the least. To top it all off, I saw the waitress turn away a mother, whose son just needed to use the toilets..Well theres friendly for you...

A superb restaurant, the food fantastic, the service second to none, the ambience and decor is equivalent to the best London restaurants.

Madhus has to be my favourit Indian restaurant, and I'm lucky it's just around the corner.

High expectations led to a poor result. Went there for my birthday. Service was awful, the waiter could not speak english properly and it took absolutely forever to get the food to our table. I asked which freshly squeezed juices they had, reiterated the word FRESHLY squeezed four times and he inisisted the passion fruit juice was the one to have... was it fresh, no it wasn't and it was it was mixed with water and some other nasty stuff. Ordered lots of food inclduing dry chicken tikka (not even boneless!), prawn curry (if you could even call those things prawns) and lamb chops (with no lamb on them!). We wish we had gone to other more traditional places like Giftos. Fortunately, since it was my birthday i didn't have to pay...

I must say that I was concerned after reading through the reviews here .... and I am not easily pleased! Arrived at around 7pm on a Thursday evening – parking, well we were just plain lucky and only needed to go round the block twice. After being shown to the table, we noticed the top cloth was dirty and we asked for it to be changed. When they cleared the table and lifted the cloth there was enough food under it to feed a family. We changed tables after deciding that we would stay.

Following this fairly tacky start, the next stumbling block was the number of popadums. We ordered six but only 4 were bought. Following a question, I felt that there was a bit of a language problem. Ah well..... Let’s make the most of it. Oh yes, and then shortly after we started eating about 20 people came out of the kitchen and walked through the restaurant - no doubt off to an event, but I think that next time they should use the back door as this was not a bus stop and this really detracted from the atmosphere.

The person that took the order was very helpful and made several suggestions. They appeared to be pushing for extras, but then suggested things we might not want that we had ordered already. In other words, this person was more of a food-advisor - the only other time I had encountered someone adept was in a very expensive restaurant in Los Angeles. The advice was excellent.

Their suggestions turned out to be superb, as did the meal. We didn’t have starters instead opting for the main course only. The meal was one of the best that we have had for a long long time. We had an excellent mix of chicken, lamb, paneer and other vegetable dishes.

The cost of the meal was £100 for four - and believe me when I said we ordered a huge amount of food! I would expect a more normal meal would be about £20 each and I didn’t think this expensive at all.

Overall, I believe that the dirty table was an oversight and that still concerns me. I am glad that we stayed as the meal was excellent and ensured that we would be returning in the future. With reference to the other reviews, the restaurant has done a lot of work resolving its issues, or we were just lucky. Whatever the case, I would recommend this and will definitely be visiting again.

The first time I went to Madhus was back in 1987, before they became a NAME. I loved the food, the ambience was pretty good too. Although prices were higher than established equivalents, it was worth the difference. Unfortunately, it seems the fame has gone to Mr Madhus head. The food is still good, the service is fair, the ambience still ok, but the prices are shocking. When one can enjoy places like Tamarind at the heart of London, why should one pay for the same prcies for a restaurant which is located in an area which is dirty, dire & feels extremely unsafe at night? If you don't mind paying prices similar to top London Indian restaurants, then go to top Indian London restaurants. You'll feel your money was better wasted.

Back again on a very busy thursday evening in January. Food was excellent but service was patchy. Long wait between starter and main but that could be because of a big party in the adjoining room. A bit pushy with the drinks.

It is still worth going for the food.
