Buffet Brazil

This part of a small chain is one of Wandsworth's best kept secrets. I stumbled upon it one day after having moved from Tooting and missing my weekly dose of spicy curries.

Well, the menu is impressive but not overhwelming - too much choice is not a good thing sometimes. The food was well cooked, promptly arriving and the prices are reasonable and good value for money (No, please don't raise them we are in the middle of a credit crunch!) Starters are marginally smaller than the huge main dishes: the buffet is both their strength and weakness-I often go a la carte just because I get a bit greedy and lose complete control when I see all those lovely dishes.

I am not a fan of meat but their Ridizio (endless BBQ meat rounds with side dishes off the buffet) looked well marinated and succulent. However, the fish, in particular, the Calamares Fritos are so good, I order this even if I don't want it just becasue they are spot on every time - the very gorgeous staff don't mind doing the doggy bag thing but generally people don't leave anything on their plates because it's so tasty and simple. Their desserts are so good you get toothache just looking at them; so, not for the faint-hearted.

I particularly liked the crossover and influence of Afro-Caribbean palates in their meals, Cassava, Bacalhao (saltfish cakes) and Stewed Beans and Rice. As for their cocktails, make sure your stomach is well-lined because they are lethal - I was floored a couple of weeks ago by 3 Mojitos. Also, there's two cab stations locally, so leave the car and get blasted.

Go to Earlsfield for a late, hip-thrusting night at the weekends or Putney Bridge for a more intimate setting (or date), especially if a one-way ticket to Rio is just a lttle out of your league.

Excellent food, beer, service, not the best decoration and salads but it doesn't matter. If you are really hungry, definitely the best place to go - huge and affordable meals.
