Stopped by for a takeaway - as noted by others, very nice manager, simple minimalist decor, local families eating.

Food excellent, best Japanese food I have had in London - grilled aubergine of exceptional melting flavour, chicken yakitori, tofu, black cod with miso - all with varied, fresh flavours.

A little more expensive than the usual Japanese cafe I go to, but much cheaper than the business joints. Warmly recommended!

Great local restaurant with high quality fresh Japanese food (and some other Asian dishes). Terrific service and a great manager who comes over from the very good but pricey Four Regions Chinese across the road (who own Maki).

In these days of mostly rip-off food it is really enjoyable to see real value for money. Atmosphere is more authentically Japanese - ie simple minimalist. Not a place to go for the buzz if you like posing palaces!

We live locally to Maki and since our first try we have been back very often.

Not only is the food fresh, well prepared and tasty; it is the whole experience that is rewarding.

I agree with the previous review: the manager is a real asset to this place. This is the restaurant where I feel the most welcome in London in a genuine and consistent manner.

You are treated as a truly valued customer and it is nice to be greeted with a smile and "welcome back!’” as you walk in.

The menu has a very wide selection of warm, cold and raw dishes so you won’t grow bored of the food even with frequent visits. You can go for filling mains or order multiple smaller dishes and make it Japanese tapas.

Sashimi is my favourite item on the menu and with this level of quality, welcoming service at the accessible prices it is definitely my top local eatery.

Maki opened in late 2007 in a road full of well established restaurants at the end of Kew road. We'd just moved to the area and desperately needed something to replace our favourite local Japanese restaurants. Our first visit, shortly after they opened, was a quiet but very enjoyable affair and we have been back almost every week since with different groups of friends who are now also raving about it.

The food is excellent, reasonably priced and very very fresh but what keeps us going back is the manager - we always feel very welcome. He seems to be like this with everyone who comes in - and not in an insincere way - he really is genuinely pleased to see everyone.

We can't recommend this place enough.
