Cochin Brasserie

We went to Cochin Brasserie in Putney couple of days back and it was really worth the journey. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was really exceptional, tasted fresh and a little spiced to liven things up (plenty of vegetarian options too). And above all, the price was reasonable. The restaurant was busy that night but we had to ask for a diary free dish as my mum was allergic to dairy products. Despite being busy and having lot of other options in the menu, the chef made a dish which was not in the menu and that stood above all the other dishes in taste. It did look like effort was spent on preparing the dish. We felt like we were really cared for and my mum was really impressed. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended!
Plzzz don't go there expecting your usual curry experiance.

Having read previous positive reviews about Cochin Brasserie I decided to try their cuisine for myself. We ordered four starters: Mixed seafood dry, fishcakes, spicy chicken and Herd Lambs balls. When they arrived, I was quite impressed by the presentation and taste of the starters but was alarmed to find the fishcakes were stone cold and my partner thought his was so cold in the middle they may have been pre-prepped then frozen or kept in a fridge and then reheated for far too short a time. To the restaurant credit once alerted they quickly brought some steaming hot ones and offered an explanation I couldn't fully understand but I infered that the original ones came out by mistake and hadn't been heated up!
We then both ordered Lamb Kadia with garlic nan and mustard rice for our mains, and sorry to say we were disappointed to say the least. The meat was not in chunks but ridiculously small pieces, gristly and tough, and I sincerely believe is was more beef than lamb. It reminded me of something I'd give to my cat. The sauce was less than fragrant and tasted purely of tomatoes and was very oily. I love north and south Indian food and eat it regularly but in this case I struggled to finish half of it, the curry was awful and certainly not worth the 8.95 per serving. I would not return to this restaurant.

A little oasis. This establishment offers an alternative but don't be shy to go along and try. It is South Indian in flavours and those flavours are delicate and subtle and a real taste sensation.
We went as a group of 5 guys one Saturday evening and had a very warm welcome. The staff are very accommodating and the Manager/Owner was exceptionally helpful in tailoring each of our dishes to our own personal taste.
The Poppadom options are very large (One between 2 is a sensible option). We were all pleasantly surprised by how tastey the food was. The owner even offered to drive us to Putney Station after having only ordered a taxi for 4 people. Now you can't say many restaurant owners have done that. Highly recommend.

A must try!! Excellent food , very friendly staff , very nice ambience.
My husband is from Kerala and even though I am myself from North India , I am a big fan of Kerala cuisine.
Whenever my husband and I have a craving for authentic Kerala food , Cochin Brasserie comes to our mind and each visit is very satisfying.
Place is neat , clean and tastily decorated inside. Food is served with care and love. Food tastes great but isn't very heavy on your wallet. What more can one ask for!
We really liked these : Kerala Parotha(bread), Naadan Kozhi curry(chicken curry , kerala style) , Chicken Roast Curry(another kerala style curry), Chicken Pepper fry(starter) , Prawns fry(starter) and Semiya Payasam( vermicelli pudding).
Summary - highly recommended, hidden gem!!
