Having heard great things about this restaurant my partner and I have been meaning to try this place out for a while. We thought we'd go this weekend as a treat. What a disappointment...
As soon as we walked to the desk and asked for the table we had booked we were told we had to be out by 8 as it was needed for another party. If only we'd walked out at this point... We sat down and after about 20 minutes we got bored of waiting for someone to come and take our drinks order so went to the front desk and ordered our drinks and food there. The drinks came pretty fast as did the food.
The food was below average and completely over priced! The cocktails weren't bad though. It took a while for our plates to be cleared. When the gentleman came to take away our plates he didn't offer us the dessert menu. By this point we had enough and waited and waited for the bill. Eventually we got up for the bill and when no one came to take our payment we got up to pay. The cheeky waiter even tried to put service charge on our card even though we instructed him how much to take from the card. My partner at this point mentioned to the waiter that we had received a very low level of service. We got a very ingenuine/rude apology. This just topped the evening off for us!

It's always a bad idea, in my book, to think that you're cool. it almost certainly means that you are not.
thus "contrived" is the best word to describe this place. you'll understand what i mean when you step in and see the crass, overdone decor, and attitude of certain of the staff members. i have never understood establishments that clearly market themselves at a narrow demographic, and pay little or no attention to those who do not "fit". the owners of rock n' rose need to understand that, as a matter of principle, restaurants are not designer clothing boutiques.
starters were decent, the squid was actually rather good. but main courses were tasteless. it is pricey for what you get.
didn't appreciate the waiter raising eyebrows in exasperation when i asked for the cheque. the place was pretty much empty so it's not like he was uber busy. or was it a contrived attempt at looking busy?? perhaps. won't bother going back to find out.

The restaurant is indeed glamorous and a pleasure for the eye but the food was mediocre with a price suggesting something a little more special. Having said that I only tried the lobster linguine and couldn't comment on the rest of the menu. The only other disappointment were the toilets which although clean enough, seemed to have been forgotten when the glamor was dished.

Rock & Rose is definitely Richmond's sexiest restaurant.
The decor is fantastic; glitzy and glamorous with a touch of Beckingham Palace. The place was really buzzing on a Friday night and has a good atmosphere. A great place for summer drinks/dining with an outdoor patio and garden area. A mixed crowd of diners generally between 25-40.
Cocktails are generally good and suitably priced and they even have decent beer on tap for the boys. The Rock & Rose Martini is reminiscent of the offerings at Dollar Grills & Martini's in Exmouth Market with a shot of champagne on the side.
One waiter was outstanding and the rest were pretty mediocre. It took a while to get anyone's attention unless the "hero" waiter was near your table.
Food was truly excellent. Starters of baby back ribs (melt in the mouth with a nice sticky sauce) and poached egg with asparagus & parmesan (light and yet perfectly balanced and tasty). Main course rump of lamb (perfectly cooked) and yet more ribs (although with homemade coleslaw and rustic fries). Beware the main course portion of ribs is enormous.
We are not big pudding fans so we stuck to two courses. Bill came in at £90 including service and three drinks each so all in all not too bad.
I will definitely be going again!
