Have been a couple of times to casale franco and have always been impressed with the food. Not sure why English people are so obsessed with things being "authentic" but on our most recent visit we were sitting right next to the kitchen and there was some very loud arguing in italian going on, so guessing that there are a lot of italian people behind the scenes. The food is good, the service is usually ok and the selection of specials and wine is good too.

Having decided to take an early evening bite ..we went straight in for the mains... An immediate hunger was quelled by fresh bread rolls...

I took the ribeye steak(£16)...my partner decided upon the monkfish(£17) as a special.

House wine fine, ...service attentive...nice smiles.

Food arrives,: Ribeye chopped up...god i hate it when someone chops up my steak..it is simply wrong in every way possible ..as an idea..it is disastrous and as a thought...pretentious and unappealing tossed amongst half a bag of rocket leaves ..The steak was not medium rare and i fought to obtain any flavour from this meat.very dull ..roasted potatoes (actually fried slices)were luke warm and sodden through.Dam..Monkfish morsels were clothed in prosciutto(they needed it)again taking those tatty's for company.Dam,

Mediocrity...still...still in this city ..and people still get away with it.Budget airline it to Italy, france or Spain and eat almost anywhere for half the cost and see how one can smile thereafter!Hmmmmm

Dined here last night with a friend who is half Italian (to continue the debate over Italian authenticity). It is one of the few Italian restaurants my friend will frequent.

The service is balanced and the decor individual, if a little quirky in parts.

We shared a good antipasto of cheese (Pecorino I think) and pear, and then excellent mains of pumpkin ravioli. A large glass of quaffable red wine, a sweet liqueur to finish and we were out again for £30 a head including service.

After being treated and fed this well, I will be back.

I am Italian, a great food lover, I've tried many Italian places in London in the last 3 years, I can confirm that this the best for me, the service is good, the place is very cute and very well hidden, the food is the best Italian food I ever had, I can almost compare it to my mum's food! that's for an Italian is something special!

The pasta was well cooked (not overcooked as usual in London...) and well salty (usually it is without any taste). The seafood souse was wonderful.

The best part are the desserts, the chef is from sicily, and we tried the cassata, a revisit of the traditional sicilian dessert.

THAT WAS THE BEST DESSERT I EVER HAD IN MY LIFE.

I am amazed by your previous reviewers. As a genuine Italian may I controversially suggest that your reviewers are obsessed with Tuscany or other such anglisized regions. Nothing about this restaurant is authentic Italian from the waiters to the chef to the menu and the prices. Experience REAL Italty then comment on Italian food.

My boyfriend and I went to Casale Franco to celebrate our anniversary. We just decided to head to Upper St. for dinner and randomly stumbled upon this place. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The food was very fresh and tasty and the service was extremely friendly and helpful. My boyfriend is Italian, and we're both cooking fanatics... Casale Franco certainly went beyong our expectations.

Went here last night for an nice late al fresco dinner and thought it was fantastic.

We had a nice table outside, under the awning. The atmosphere was just right, the food some of the best Italian I've had, the wines a joy (if not a bit expensive) and the service subtle but very attentive.

A new regular on my list for sure!

Highly recommended!!

This place is on a roll at the moment , and deservedly so. The kitchen is producing food that is fresh and of the highest quality. Although not cheap, it is stll great value for money , considering the enormous portions and location. The homemade organic bread rolls, served with good quality olive oil, as soon as you sit down is a big plus, as is the cold antipasto Casale which is full of tasty regional titbits. The Porchetta and the Pizzas are the among the best to be had in London, and as for the desserts well I'm still salivating over the meringue with forest fruits. As you can tell Im a big fan of this place, my only gripe, the word is spreading too fast, and it is now becoming extremely difficult to make a reservation for saturday nights unless you book well in advance.
