I was here in mid of March 2009 and although my stay here in London was a short one, after just a couple of days, I miss my malaysian cuisine, especially fried rice and 'teh tarik'. A glass of teh tarik at Bonda Cafe cost me 1 pound. I belived Bonda Cafe will be the right place for all Malaysians in London to dine in whenever they miss Malaysian food.

Came here today with a few friends after reading the below reviews and am so glad to have found this hidden Malaysian gem in Paddington! Being Indonesian I take my South-East Asian food seriously and can say that this place serves authentic, no-fuss Malaysian food. In actual fact I must totally disagree with the below comment as I thought their rendang was excellent...tender with just the right amount of spices. Admittedly, it's more a hole in the wall than a trendy hang out but the chefs definitely know what they're doing...and judging from the amount of Malay customers at Bonda I'm not the only one that thinks so. Would definitely recommend it.

The worst food I've ever eaten in all my life. Ordered the ''famous'' rendang with rice. I ended up chewing on the hard beef. It was just awful. My partners rice was also pretty tasteless and oily and smelt of something awful (god knows what it was)! Shady interiors, awful service, canteen-like ambience and awful food. Avoid.

I happened to visit Bonda Cafe on the same day as Steven McArthur, my previous visit had been there almost a year before and the teh tarik was as good as I remembered! I brought along 2 guests who had lived in Malaysia before so we had the lunch (Nasi Campur C) which is the rice plus 3 choices and a vege for six pounds fifty pence - which seemed like good value. However on paying the bill, it appears as though the garnish is counted as the "vegetable choice" so our individual choice of vegetable was billed as an "additional" dish at 3 pounds fifty pence each, putting the price up to ten pounds per person - this was not pointed out when making the choices so beware of this pitfall! Probably less chance of price surprises when ordering a la carte. I will order the roti canai on my next visit.

I had had roti canai (similar to pan cake) with gravy, so crunchy. I will definately going to Malaysia next year for more food tasting.

Nasi Campur served fresh during lunch and various choice of dishes. Value for money £4.50 per meal same price as Malaysian Hall canteen. A la carte also not bad, my girlfriend had mee mamak penang style and noodle taste so fresh.

Sunday, February 13, 2011 - Mee goreng is fried noodles and the mamak here means the Tamil Indians in Malaysia. So, fried noodles Indian style, as found in Malaysia - a style of cooking not often encountered here. The egg noodles were delicious with lots of bits and pieces: I found egg, potato, fritters, squid, and prawns. It was a huge portion too...So, a couple of ways to eat here then: nasi campur with ready-made dishes or off the a la carte menu. And both methods fed me well.

Friday, May 08, 2009 - The Rendang Daging, as Bonda's motto suggests is a 'home away from home' dish. Melting meat, rich and spicy coconut sauce, and the smell of lemon grass is heavenly. So let us stress once again, on a good day, this is my most perfect beef rendang in London. Bonda Café is an another great addition to the list of halal Malaysian dining. Highly recommended.
