I have to say the reviews do not reflect how bad this place really is. We were served uncooked spider crabs and seaweed salads that was just plain tasteless and chewy. Service was GOD awful! Even using the Taste of London card wasn't worth it at all. I would say this is the worst restaurant in London. I just hope they clean up their act!

I am sad to say that I visited Mura with my wife for a late lunch following reading some good reviews about the food & service on the London Eating on-line guide; unfortunately in our case, these reviews proved to be totally wrong!
Having been served with drinks quickly and our lunch order taken (we were told the duck dishes on the menu were off) we waited over 20 mins. and were assured our food was on its way. After another 10 mins. the head waiter again assured me that my seafood salad would be along shortly: to which I answered that this was part of my main course and that we still hadn't had starters!
From his reaction, it was clear that they had lost our orders for starters and after a further couple of mins. he re-appeared with my salad (comprising a load of diced up squid, a couple of prawns and afew overdone flakes of salmon, instead of the prawns, scallops and salmon promised on the menu). There was no sign of the rest of ourt meal, including my wife's main course of black cod. It is quire clear that either they had mis-placed our whole order and/or had run out of seafood in addition to duck.
In the circumstances the waiter waived our drinks bill and we left without eating anything, having wasted over 1.5 hours making a special trip for lunch at Mura, including the 40 mins., or so wasted in the restaurant. Not a good experience! (Having said this, the few other dishes we saw being served looked fairly OK).

Great Japanese food ,authentic but with a modern twist.I have visited Mura several times in the last few weeks, its a buzzy chic environment with friendly and attentive staff.Very fresh sushi and sashimi and an interesting amount of hot food, its by no means all raw fish.Much better than most Japanese restaurants I have tried in London and I will be returning soon.

I have visited Mura on more than one occasion recently, both during the lunch and the evening service. I enjoy the relaxed ambience which the restaurant enjoys which is complimented by the quality of the 'Japanese fusion' cuisine. My appetite is whetted by the Prawn tempura, one of my favourite dishes, washed down with some Green Tea.
The sushi is always fresh and well presented, with premium choices such as black cod and white tuna offering superb flavours. I was pleasantly surprised by the Sake which would not normally be my drink choice, which I found very pleasant to drink. As a local resident I have enjoyed a swift take away service too, enabling me to enjoy my 'Maki Platter' from the comfort of my lounge.
I would recommend Mura, whether for a light lunch (two course set lunch including a drink is currently £8.50) or for an evening meal with family and friends.

I have visited Mura on three occasions over the last month. The first visit was great - food was extremely fresh and tasty - lots of favorites from other famous Japanese restaurants aroung town - and often very affordable - try the bento boxes. Deep fried tofu (Agedashi tofu) is a bit untraditional in tht it is served as sticks with dipping sauce onthe side, but stayed deliciously hot and crisp as a result. Shredded duck salad is also quite a treat. But the more I visit, the more I see a gradual decline in the dining experience.
The sushi, like the service and the pricing polcy, is a bit haphazard. Hand rolls are generally good, but a bit chewy (seaweed could use a bit more toasting). Maki are served in a set of three rolls, as opposed to the usual six, and was not always the freshest. And why certain dishes should cost about the same as one maki roll (of three pieces again), when the serving is considerably larger is a bit of a mystery to me. In any case, though, a decent restaurant with an unusual non-traditional take on Japanese food, presentation and ambiance.
A good place for a moderately priced, good Japanese meal, but certainly not in the same league as Defune or Dinings - my top two choices for spectacular Japanese in the Marylebone/Marble Arch area.
