Mura Restaurant

I have visited Mura on three occasions over the last month. The first visit was great - food was extremely fresh and tasty - lots of favorites from other famous Japanese restaurants aroung town - and often very affordable - try the bento boxes. Deep fried tofu (Agedashi tofu) is a bit untraditional in tht it is served as sticks with dipping sauce onthe side, but stayed deliciously hot and crisp as a result. Shredded duck salad is also quite a treat. But the more I visit, the more I see a gradual decline in the dining experience.
The sushi, like the service and the pricing polcy, is a bit haphazard. Hand rolls are generally good, but a bit chewy (seaweed could use a bit more toasting). Maki are served in a set of three rolls, as opposed to the usual six, and was not always the freshest. And why certain dishes should cost about the same as one maki roll (of three pieces again), when the serving is considerably larger is a bit of a mystery to me. In any case, though, a decent restaurant with an unusual non-traditional take on Japanese food, presentation and ambiance.
A good place for a moderately priced, good Japanese meal, but certainly not in the same league as Defune or Dinings - my top two choices for spectacular Japanese in the Marylebone/Marble Arch area.
