I ordered cheeseburger and chips at Plane Food on 16th January 2012 with the added pleasure of Gordon Ramsay overseeing operations.
The cheesburger was satisfactory but the chips tasted if they had been baked beyond belief.
In view of this I asked to have the service charge waived - which was then deducted from my bill. In addition I also resented paying a cover charge (surely this is a disguised mark-up?) - perhaps I should have confronted the man himself!

I have been going to Plane Food about twice a month since it opened
the first few times where a bit hit and miss and I put this down to teething problems
Plane Food then became the thing I looked forward to when ever I had to travel for business, whether I was in there for breakfast or dinner the food was fantastic, the service was fast and enthusiastic.
But since January I have been 4 times and every time has been abismal the meals are not up to standard the service ......what service ?
I dont know what has happened recently, But I wont be going back

I was flying to Las Vegas for New Year from Heathrow and decided to eat at Gordon Ramsay Plane Food restaurant in Terminal 5. We ordered two fish & chips and the bill came to almost £45 which i thought was very high for what it was (not very fresh, bland and small portion).
I then looked at the bill and there was a 15% charge added on for service (fair enough). But also there was another 10% charge added on for no particular reason. I question the waitress about this 10% and she said that it was a charge to cover the use of the napkins! How ridiculous it that!!
Gordon is obviously getting very greedy and has lost the plot! Practice what you preach Gordon!!
We left and went to the Wetherspoons pub at the other end of the terminal where the fish & chips looked alot better for a fiver!

The service at Plane Food is absolutely diabolical. I had to wave over the waiter on so many occasions that I felt quite embarrassed to be there.
I could get over the absurd pretentiousnes of having to take a seat for five minutes in what can only be described as a staging area, whilst they 'prepare your table'. (I add that all the tables in the restaurant are already laid up).
I could get over the inflated prices, for decent if not outstanding food delivered in small portions.
However, I should not have to ask three times for my drinks, I should not have to stand up and wave to attract any kind of service. I should not have to speak very slowly because my waiter barely speaks English.
Its just a shame that we saw Plane Food before we noticed the Giraffe downstairs. I certainly will not be making the same mistake next time i fly from Terminal 5.

Having got to the airport a little ahead of schedule, I thought I would duck in and have a decent breakfast instead of getting indigestion on something from one of the other pathetic options.
The service was very pleasant and quite speedy. The food also came our reasonably quickly and was quite tasty. After all, having to put half a muffin in a toaster, place a tiny piece of smoked salmon on it, then a poached egg and a little hollandaise sauce must be tough for the kitchen. At 7.75, they obviously don't make much money out of this.
Then when I got the bill it all made sense. 1.50 each just to sit down, listed as "Cover Charge". On top of that, they have the requisite 12.5% gratuity charge not only on the food, but on the cover charge as well!! I find this aspect of their gratuity gratuitous, if not imoral.
So I ended up paying more than 10 quid for an egg on bread. Lovely Gordon. Luckily it was cooked perfectly, but it definately wasn't worth it. I should have sat in the airport lounge.
