My friends got married here in July of this year, and I was honoured to be one of their bridesmaids. The owner was very friendly and helpful when they booked the venue. Didn’t last long.

Two days before the wedding they were supposed to go and set up (arranged in advance) and they travelled the hour from their house there, to find the entire place locked up! On speaking to the owner he was too busy 'out shopping in Oxford with his wife'! All plans for the day before the wedding had to be rearranged to accommodate his shopping plans.

So the next day we go to set up. We are there for an hour, in which the owner spent his time showing other couples round and ignoring my friends, didn't apologise, got the seating plans wrong and tried to blame us, and didn't even get us a glass of water for the bride's mother who was not very well.

The wedding at a church was lovely, and then we went to the reception. When walking in he and his bar staff were standing around chatting to mates, ignoring the guests and even the bride and groom.

The final insult was when, after a query over the price of a round of drinks, he rudely told me he was the 'guv'nor' and so the drinks will cost whatever he feels like charging. When I asked for a bill to prove the cost, he made a rude hand gesture implying I was talking rubbish and proceeded to get his phone out and turn his back on me! Had it been any other occasion than my dear friend's wedding, I would have probably gone mad.

The venue itself has lovely grounds, but beware the dirty toilets and wafts of rotten plantation.

I recently attended a birthday dinner at the Q Vardis, I can say that having got most of the orders wrong for the main meal, it took some time to get them right. I was disappointed with my meal. Not one person came and asked if everything was ok with the meals, I could not eat mine and when I spoke to someone the person was extremely rude and arrogant, I would not go back to this place again.

The last time I visited this venue was 5 years ago when it was Quackers and what a disappointing difference! I went there for a girly night out with 5 of my friends. I had looked at their website prior to going which shows the set menu for the evening. They also offer a cocktail list on the website but when I asked to see the cocktail menu, I was told they didnt have one. The manager (or owner?) is extremely arrogant and then cockily asked which one did I want. My friend asked for a Pina Colado to which he shrugged his shoulders and said they didnt do that!

The starters and mains were absolutely lovely, but whats happened to the desserts??! Some of my friends had the cheesecake which was so bland and had a sponge base (not cheesecake in our opinion) and I ordered the lemon posset with shortbread biscuits. The posset was very nice, but served with biscuits out of a packet (I know this because I buy them for home!). When we mentioned the quality of the desserts to the manager, again he was extremely arrogant and totally dismissive of any constructive criticism.

The atmosphere in the club was awful and only a quarter full and the DJ clearly needs to be sacked. If the dance floor did manage to get a quarter full, he would put on a ridiculous record which would clear it immediately! I'm told that the owners arent really interested in running it as a club and are making enough profit from their wedding functions. If this is the case, that would explain the whole 'couldnt care less' attitude by the manager. No wonder it was more than half empty. The fact that it was a Saturday night and they only needed two bar men says it all. Would I go back - yes for food and probably a week night because the starter and main were good, but certainly not for an evening out. The bouncers also pace up and down with their arms folded as if it was student night there when most of the clientelle are in the 30's - certainly not needed.
