Mama Calabar

I love Mama Calabar food, I think she cooks really well, for someone in Europe, however,I have tasted better food in other Nigerian restaurants.. Like Sandayos in Burnt Oak Opposite Tesco, they might not have the glamour of Mama Calabar, but this lady's food is very edible, just like back home in Africa.. I stopped going to Mama Calabar, because I find her too pricey, a rip off....

One thing I also notice in Mama Calabar, is that her staff always look dirty, they talk to you with your food in their hands, that is just yucky.. Anywho, that is my own opinion...

I've been a regular at Mama Calabar for a few years now and can honestly say that the food has always been fantastic. The service is very very slow (an hour on one occassion!), but I've learned to call ahead with my order. They're also quite expensive compared to other Nigerian restaurants. They've recently moved to a new location near Wembley Stadium. The new restaurant is in an office block, which is quite disconcerting, but once inside the restaurant, I forgot about the strange surroundings as the decor is really nice. They've also created a bar area with comfy sofas if you just want to have a quiet drink and a few nibbles. The food remains the key thing anyway. Definitely recommended.

I partly disagree with the previous review, yes the waiting time is long but when the food arrives you forget how long you've actually waited, the food is absolutely delicious, I am European and went there for the first time in 1999 and I have visited them at least once every 6 weeks since then. They have now moved to Wembley, a huge improvement, nice decor with leather chairs and the service is accordingly and even the waiting time is reduced. A definite place to visit.

I have never been to Mama Calabar but I have heard so many positive raves and oh! and ah! about it that I have decided to go there this weekend, Sat/Sun 8th/9th April. I am looking forward so much to coming over the Restaurant.

On Monday/Tuesday 10th/11th April I shall contribute my own Ah! and Oh!. I am very excited.

My review below is for now based on what I have been told by others!!!!!!!

I have been a patron for a V. long time and the quality of food is excellent. The waiting time is obscene even for food that is "assembled" (definitely not cooked) from scratch..

Value for money?(maybe compared with some other places); don't know, but I am willing to pay for good food and service (the former being prevalent, the latter??)

I would recommend it to anyone, but please call ahead and order.

Absolutely top notch! In my veiw, the best Nigerian restuarant in Europe.

A fine night out with either the family (kids incl) or friends, any which way satisfaction is guaranteed!

For anyone who hasn't been to Mama Calabar yet, please try and correct this very serious oversight on your part!!
