Takari was an excellent choice for an early Saturday evening dinner. The food and service were great and I would definitely recommend it.

Our company went to Takari Covent Garden to celebrate Xmas. The place always has a good vibe and buzz. but mostly consistently good food, had a great time.

Overpriced with very bad service and NO atmosphere. Much better Indian restaurants in the area!

The food was okay, but it was definitely overpriced. 3.60 for mediocre pakoras and dips is WAY too much, and the onion bhaji was unappealing as well. Mains were better, but drinks were expensive, and I definitely think you could do better elsewhere.

Went for this place based on reviews on Top Table - sadly the promise of its favourable reviews went undelivered. Both my friend's and my partners are pregnant and so 3 glasses of tap water were ordered, only to be told the restaurant does not serve tap water unless something is ordered from the drinks menu. Shock number 1. Fortunately I was gagging for a (£6 a bottle) beer so that potential fire was hastily snuffed out. Given that my friends are not overly familiar with Indian food, we ordered a decent amount of mains and sides and just a couple of starters to share; when the starters came and we asked for 2 more plates with which to share out the starter the waiter rudely jabbed his finger at the odd, uselessly undersized rectangular mini side plates and span away from the table. Shock number 2. Upon hearing us smirking in disbelief at this unusual behaviour the waiter returned with a mumbled offer of 2 other plates but the damage was done. Shock number 3 came as the mains had been bought out - I had ordered a lamb dish but was presented with a lamb bhuna and when I told the waiter it was not what I had ordered his reply was that it was "similar" to what I had ordered, apart from the fact that the lamb dish I had requested has ginger as an added ingredient. He promptly scurried off the kitchens and came back with a few shreds of raw ginger and flicked them on to the bhuna and announced that the dish was now the one I has aksed for. Unbelievable!
I've been eating curries for nigh on 30 years and should frankly have known better than to go to an Indian in tourist-central Covent Garden, but my friends are out-of-towners and thats where they'd been all day. Aside from the 3 issues above, fundamentally speaking the food was predictably middle of the road - very bland bhindi bhaji, unorthodox-tasting tarka dhall, not a lot of meat in the mains, hard chick peas in the chana masala, butter chicken more like a bowl of sweetened cats milk with a few lumps of sorry chicken in it, dry rice etc etc the list goes on. You get the picture.
To summarise this place I leave you with 4 words - DON'T BOTHER GOING INSIDE.

Very poor. Bog-standard high street dishes but not done as well. Lamb was tough as old boots and I nearly broke my knife trying to cut it. Other dishes were OK at best.
I had the 50% off food deal but they at first refused to include papadums into that and beer was very expensive at over £20 for 3 Cobras.
Place has very little going for it. I won't be coming back.

Totally agree with the last review. Food absolute joke. I had chicken biryani and my boyfriend had lamb biryani. We usually always end up choosing these dishes when we eat out in Indian restaurants and can make very tasty homemade ones so know what to expect. Food was so basic- plate of oily rice with bits of meat. No coriander and virtually zero anything else. Found one dried raisin and a lone sliced almond. No charm or manner from waiter in his fancy authentic indian dress. Other waiter was at least polite- ish.
Food totally overpriced and not a penny spent on toilets which are uncomfortably close to kitchen. We decided to mention our dissatisfaction while paying for the meal. No "I'm sorry to hear that" or “I’ll pass that onto the chef”. All we got was "but you ate the food!" and “come back again maybe it’ll be different”. Only that we had a flight to catch and were hungry, we wouldn’t have stood for this.

Do not go to this restuarant! i have never actually gone to a place and been unsatisfied until now and believe me i tend to eat anything.
The mood was ruined as soon as they asked us for drinks and i wanted tap water, and they said its their policy not to give any. Ok fine. So i ask to get still water. Nope not available only sparkling water. So, basically the only way to get water was if someone ordered drinks. I don't actually drink juice or anything except water so i had to order a juice to get tap water. My friend tasted it and said its 95% water with 5% juice. Noone at the table drank it.
Then I asked about the portion sizes and the waiter said I should go for the main dish, and showed me using his hands the size of a small portion. But the portion size I got was a lot smaller than what he showed me. The food was bland, there were no spices or any indian aromatic taste to it. My friends were also unimpressed with their meals. Seriously, the food is sooo bland.
Throughout the meal, the waiters gave us horrible looks like we were cheapskates. The only reason why I walked into the restaurant was because of other reviews.
The only good thing about this place was the decor. Most indian restaurants have plain decor, with uncomfortable seats, this place actually looks reasonable. Don't be fooled.
DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!! There are cheaper and much better indian resturants.

Popped into the Takari on Tuesday with my wife and it has to be said we had a corking meal. It was about 9:30 so we were worried about getting a table but the staff were very accomadating. We ordered a couple of main curry's with rice, naan and some side dishes washed down with a bottle of the excellent King Cobra beer. It all tasted really fresh and was filling without being stodgy. We didn't wait long for the dishes despite the restaurant being busy. It had a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere with people obviously having a great time. The meal came to £50 for two with service charge It is the best Indian meal I have had in a long time and shows you can get an authentic tasty meal outside of Brick Lane without paying the earth. I can't wait to go back soon
