The Royal Oak

the downstairs bar: mostly really friendly staff, or just that hint of aloof that one might expect on columbia road (while still being helpful), good booze, decent wines. food generally good, the steaks are a favourite - they've been better but there are lots of places that would do well to see how simply it can work.

the folk who go there are a good mix and it's got a fine buzz about it any night of the week.

getting a place at the bar for dinner for two is still possible on most nights of the week towards 9pm if you're in luck.
