our review

Recently reopened following a refurb, the Park Terrace Restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the Royal Garden Hotel. The restaurant is divided into three areas: a stylish bar; a lounge area offering a more informal dining option with all day dining and afternoon tea available; and a restaurant serving a la carte British cuisine, with a strong focus on locally sourced ingredients.

Marina O'Loughlin - 2/5

Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - I'm struggling to have a kind word to say about the Park Terrace. The dark wood and swirly carpet decor is so hackneyed it could appear in the Geffrye Museum as 'early 21st-century fairly upmarket hotel, no specific location'...And then puddings. Oh, hello - these are quite astonishingly good: fudgy, blueberry cheesecake with tart blueberry compote; fantastically assured lemongrass crème brûlée scented with rhubarb fritters and the most fabulous crumbly lemon shortbread. I'd come back for afternoon tea. And give the pastry chef a massive pay rise.

We had our small wedding reception for 20 people at the private room of this restaurant in August. The members of staff were very competent and every nuance had been taken into consideration. The children were entertained with the games; menus and cards were elegantly printed to emphasise the occasion and the lunch was running smoothly without rushing and delays.

The best surprise was the cake which was of excellent value and stunning performance, it was a real centrepiece: snow-white almost see-through glaze with little ornamental decoration and several pastel roses set in the middle. Cake was light and well balanced a real complement to the Pastry Chief.

The food was of slightly less sophistication but well prepared and attractively presented on the plate. Pannacotta’s dressing was a bit overpowering in flavour and taste but duck was fantastic and matched particularly well with matured red wine. The wine list is short but diverse in styles and prices.

All in all we had amazing reception in elegant surrounding and, considering the venue, at very reasonable cost.
