I come from a family of restauranters
Arrive 31/12/11. waitress didn't take our coats. Table postion against corner with adjacent corner table positioned overlooking ours ..very uncomfortable.
waitress untidy/attitude
sourbread on starter.... fridge cold. steaks no flavour at all and knives blunt. ''sauce'' like dish water and tasteless ...not a consomme. Vegatables poorly cooked. cheese board unimaginative. cognac glass cold
18.5 % service charge a joke
left with no attendance from waitress even though not busy grabbed coats from stand and went home
In my opinion in current economic clime you must re look at yourselves possibly the owner to plant a customer over a few sessions . NEED TO DO A LOT BETTER OR RE-EVALUATE AND CHARGE CONSIDERABLY LESS FOR AVERAGE . SO VERY VERY SORRY

Avoid at all costs, Dec 2011, my husband and I went here for lunch and it was crowded which raised my hopes tha the quality was going to be good. The food was awful (maybe it was the dish I had (pork). From reading the previous reviews, had I read them before I would not have entered. This restaurant came on recommendation and I will NEVER go back. The service was ok, however, my dish was awful, tasteless and unapetising, although I poiltely tried to eat this to the end I couldn't. When the waitress, who was very nice, checked if our meal was ok asked if I enjoyed my meal I told her no and the full reasons why, not ONCE did the restaurant manager come and ask me what was wrong and why hadn't finished my meal. I live locally and will keep my loyalty with the other restaurants in the area where I have dined for lunch and dinner with great food.

This is a great restaurant, the staff are warm and friendly and the food really stands out in Blackheath. The dining room is classy and modern with great views of the heath and everything makes you feel at home whilst being on a special night out.
Mackerel with spiced lentils, and apple and aubergine puree was beautiful and perfectly balanced, If i was to be was picky I could say there wasn't really a great deal of spice in the lentils but the dish was so addictive and perfectively seasoned elsewhere I could have eaten it all night.
My partner started with beetroot tartar and goats cheese with candied beetroot which was light, refreshing and cleverly thought out. Its great to take a bite of a dish and get a few ideas coming together perfectly at once without beating you over the head.
For our mains I had pork belly which had the most delicious crackling and tender meat you could hope for. The morteaux fume sausage in the cassoulet of white beans was great as well, but i did find the beans a little overshadowed by the pork.
My girlfriend had the josper steak, and if I was to be picky it was a little over salted for her liking but never the less the tenderness and smoky flavour of the steak was superb. Take away a spoonful of salt and it would be one one the best steaks i have tasted.
We were too full to have dessert, but over all I would recommend it as the best I have been to in blackheath.

Avoid...went for tea, not impressed. Cold, tasteless scones ("that's the way we serve them") plonked on table, then had to wait 10 mins for the clotted cream and jam to be plonked on table. Wrong bill presented. No thanks or farewell by four under-employed staff chatting among themselves by entrance as we left. Cancelled dinner for Saturday. Won't be going back.
Go to Inside in Greenwich instead for great food and great service.

Been here for a coffee once before. Very nice. Went for dinner tonight and was very pleasantly surprised. Excellent, attentive service, suprisingly good food (surprisingly, because we'd not heard anything about the restaurant) and all on a Saturday night with the restaurant full.
Very cheap, but not enough to compromise the quality of the food which was well-executed and imaginative - the terrine was delicious on honeyed toast.
We will definitely be going back.

My boyfriend and i LOVE this place. The quality of the food is amazing and so so reasonably priced. We went to the restaurant when it was Chapter 2 and even though it has changed, the quality and service has not at all. The food is a little seasonal which is great. The only downside is that sometimes there can be families with small crying children, usually downstairs, which can ruin a romantic evening but I guess that's the downside to it being All Day Dining now. Never had a bad meal there and we have been quite a few times now! The tables near the window are nice as they overlook the heath.

We were a party of nine, all of whom had been to Chapter 2 quite often before, and it was Mother's Day. Given our previous unsatisfactory experiences of Mother's Day meals in other restaurants we were not expecting a lot. However, the food was excellent. Starters of ham hock and black pudding terrine were large and excellently dressed; others included a very good risotto and mackerel. The mains of duck confit with cassoulet, roast beef and sea bream were universally praised. Desserts were equally well liked. All through this, the service was excellent; Intelligent, smiling staff who could all speak good English. OK, they don't have an experienced somellier, but who needs one in a bistro/brasserie environmet?
How the kitchen brigade coped with such large numbers we don't know (it was packed when we arrived at 2.30 and was still packed when we left at 6 o'clock).
If we lived closer we would certainly use it more.

This is the first time I have felt it necessary to write a review here - and unfortunately its not good news. Chapters All Day Dining is now where chapter 2 used to be. As the sister restaurant of michelin starred Chapter 1, Chapter 2 used to be almost there - immaculate service and very well prepared and presented food. "Chapters" is now a long way from where chapter 2 used to be, which is a shame as it used to be our favourite restaurant in Blackheath; now I don't think we'll return as there are plenty of other nice places around there with more to offer. "Chapters" have changed their business model - presumably to attract more custom there is a more extensive menu (with breakfast, lunch and dinner options) and I think the prices are a little lower than chapter 2 used to be.
The food was OK, though not as good as chapter 2 was, but the service is the aspect that is really lacking now. The staff obviously have no experience of any form of fine dining - there were a number of things that really stuck out:
1) We had an aperatif cocktail before the meal. Our order was taken, and the starter presented to us before we'd even had a chance to start (let alone finish) the aperatif; therefore we were drinking cocktails with our starter.
2) Even when the cocktails were finished, the glasses were not removed from the table
3) Dishes were passed over people, not taken to their side of the table and presented there
4) The main was rushed out also, the plates for the starters had barely left the table and the main was brought out. Also when we moved on to the main, the bottle of accompanying red was not opened! We had to request this specifically
5) With the red wine we were not given a chance to taste/check if it was corked - it was just poured.
6) White wine glasses were left on the table even once we'd moved on to the red
7) We were drinking sparking water also, which got topped up with tap water. Which then got topped up with sparkling
8) Bread is no longer offered - it is just plonked in a basket on the table
9) We weren't prompted about side veg, even though the main came without it, so the meal was a little unbalanced
10) We weren't told about the specials, just pointed at a chalk board
11) Wine and water were not topped up - we were left to do this ourselves mostly, and when it was topped up the waiter went to each of our glasses about 3 times each with a dribble of wine each time
12) When we came to leave we weren't presented with our coats (which had been taken off of use when we arrived) we were just pointed to the hangars and had to get them ourselves, squeezing past some other poor diners to get to them
These probably all seem like little things, but to me they made for a bad experience. I think my judgement has been coloured by the previously excellent standards of chapter 2, but fundamentally the issue is that the staff are inexperienced, seemingly untrained, and make basic mistakes. I won't be going back soon, which is a shame as I was a regular to chapter 2.
