The Old Ship

What a great place! I only planned on having a quick bite to eat and ended up spending the whole of sunday afternoon here. The roast beef dinner was delicious with endless yorkshire puds! The waiting staff were really informative about the menu and knew exactly where all the ingredients were sourced from. The wine list was excellent and all very well priced. A definite thumbs up.

My girlfriend and I came here for a nice Sunday roast. Upon arrival we were told "you only have an hour because a group is coming", this was after booking online AND calling to confirm. Then, after being ignored by waitstaff and watching other tables get casually asked "is the food ok?" for over quarter of an hour I went to the bar to see if perhaps we were supposed to order there. The manager dismissively told me that he was coming to serve us now. Five minutes later our orders were taken.

Our food was delivery fairly promptly without so much as a smile on the waitress's face. It was satisfactory. When we finished our lamb shanks (which was delicious) we ordered some banoffee pie for dessert and were told by the waitress that the kitchen had run out THEN while waiting for our bill we heard the manager taking the table next to us' order, banoffee pie! He told them there would be a short wait. We got his attention and again ordered the banoffee pie which came after less than two minutes! We then spent ages trying to get the attention of the waitstaff for the bill so we could leave. After maybe 10 minutes of looking around the room the waitress from earlier handed us the bill and said "i have to bring you the bill because a large group is coming". We paid and left and have no intention of returning.

The food is absolutely fantastic at The Old Ship, especially the desserts - the sticky toffee pudding is one of the best I have ever had.

The ambience is nice, and it's great to have a place like this in Hackney

Visited The Old Ship to celebrate having found myself a great new job. The joy was continued in this lovely venue. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere comfortable and the food tasted great and was served in a very individual and interesting way. Yes, you are paying a little bit more than average but it's well worth it in my opinion. They have very nice hand soap and lotion in the bathrooms too!
