Mall Tavern

I wish in lived in Notting Hill just so that the Mall Tavern could be my local pub. With a relaxed atmosphere, this is the perfect spot to while away a Sunday afternoon. The food has a home cooked feel, and it is worth making the trip for the chips alone (the secret recipe chili jam is an inventive alternative to ketchup). The Mall Tavern boasts the best Bloody Mary in Notting Hill, which I defy anyone to disagree with! Overall very good attention to detail and friendly service, the Mall Tavern comes highly recommended by this satisfied customer.

The Mall Tavern is a lovely, cosy pub that is in reasonable walking distance to where I live. It's located in a particularly beautiful street, Palace Gardens Terrace, which is just off Notting Hill Gate. The decor is modern and the bar area isn't big, but there is also a restaurant which serves nice food. The service is good and not particularly expensive. I like the fact that even on a Friday night it doesn't seem that packed, so you can still get a table, and be able to hear conversations between friends! I would recommend giving it a try, and there are many bars/restaurants (Kensington Place restaurant is across the road) within a short walking distance of this if all else fails!

I sometimes wonder if I visit the same places as other reviewers; personally I think the Mall is a pretty reliable decently priced gastro type pub- not too many of those in the immediate area.
I like the fact you get table service in the bar, and the menu changes regularly and has lots of decent comfort type things- good burger, pies and the like.
As for the decor, I see they have had a spruce up over christmas and it's looking ok, but after all it is only a pub and do we really care that much so long as it's clean?
There's a good wine selection but not so good on the beers, only 2 on draught, and no ale, just Speckled Hen in bottles- not so exciting.
In all, I've never has a bad experience there and I still thoroughly recommend it.

My fiance and I used to live very close to the Mall Tavern and used to really like it .... How things have gone DOWNHILL!! After our yummy Thai meal at The Churchill we wandered down to The Mall for a drink and a dessert. I ordered the creme brulee and cookies (£5.50). It arrived .... freezing cold and on a dirty plate ... The brulee was not warm and was more like a cold mousse. The cookies were burnt and crispy. It was really terrible for the price. Service was very surly by the cold eastern european lady, who insisted on adding 12.5% service (for what can I ask!!!!)
The seating and whole area needs a major revamp, it is very tatty and desperately needs a refurb especially considering the area it is in!
Would not recommend even a drink in this ungrateful bar with rude staff!

The place was recommened by friends who apparently know the owners. I was truly disappointed. Good luck to them they will need it. But not one for Hardens. Have you read Fay Maschlers Evening Standard Review - I say no more. Well I can actually.
To be honest it was not anything special, ok as a pub for the occassional pint at your local drinking hole but not very 'upmarket', unlike what you would expect from a modern gastro pub in Notting Hill, certainly not the first choice to eat, not worth a second visit for a proper meal.
The waitress was not very pleasent and probably needs training in the arts of meeting, greeting, serving and dressing (scruffy trainers).
Menu was not very imaginative quite plain and dull really so opted for the 'popular' burger and fries. Fries were cold, chilli jam was too sweet, burger undercooked. Reasonable wine list though. Definitely no Gordon Ramsay or Gary Rhodes in the kitchen.
However the bar area was ok and inviting and busy especially compared with the empty seating area in the next room, which was cold and uninviting with some odd pictures on the wall. The place definitely needs a lick of paint and is looking very 'tired', tatty and ripped red faux leather bench, awful mens bathroom with broken sinks and lavatory.
Did not find the service very good, music too load, not a very pleasent experience overall watch out 12.5% service charge is included on bill.
There are quite a variety of other better places to eat and drink close by on Kensington Church Street.

My Fiance and I are a regulars in The Mall Tavern and frequently take guests there (also held my own engagement party there). I have always found the proprietors (Georgina and Tim) and staff to be very friendly efficient and helpful (nothing is too much trouble). I can only assume that other reviewers have been to another Mall Tavern and would strongly urge them to try it again.
The food at whatever meal (breakfast, lunch or supper), is reliably good and they even do a summer takeaway hamper for picnics in the park, which are also excellent!
The ambience is great and the pub/bar deserves every penny of the reasonable prices they charge, which although not cheap, they are not expensive (about £8 for a burger and chips or £10-£15 for a main course, from memory). The bar snacks such as potato skins and chicken skewers are excellent.
The fact that they have so many regulars proves my point..

Best steak in London, delicious, top michelin star dishes at reasonable prices. Pleasant quiet atmosphere and particularly nice to eat outside during the summer. Good wine, also reasonably priced.

I whole heartedly disagree with the negative comments I've seen here. Me and my girlfriend regularly visit the Mall and have always recieved fantastic service and are yet to have a bad meal.
Yesterday I ate an ingenious warm sald of potato and beetroot with some sort of sweet caper sauce that is still lingering on my palate today. and Steak Diane a true seventies classic that deserve a revival more than any other. My Girlfriend loves their daily changing fish specials which keep us coming back every week or so rather than eating the same old dishes week in week out.
The customers who slag off the service here must be going to another Mall tavern. Staff sometimes pushed but always friendly in my experience. Sometimes it may take a while for desserts to come but portions here are generous so it gives a little time to digest.
Please ignore the haters and keep up the fantastic work. In a west london world of overpriced and overated restaurants the Mall comes up trumps

The food here is very acceptable.
However, the service is badly let down by a member of the management who is unwisely jeopardising the future of this place by valuing profit over politeness and prudence.
This place cannot be reccommended if you wish to hear yourself or your dining companions speaking during your dinner. An ideal venue for the deaf!
