I popped in for lunch yesterday, as I was in the area and was hungry. The food was pretty average, the service too, but two things really annoyed me. One, they tried to charge me for a beer I hadn't had. And two, not knowing that I spent several years in Thailand and speak both Southern and Northern Thai very well, the waiter referred to me as a 'stupid monkey' to another waiter, when I complained about being overcharged. This is why the waiter got no tip, and why I'd probably not bother going back. As I left, I mentioned it to the manager, in Thai, but he told me I must have misheard it, or that my Thai isn't very good.

Sunday, evening, we went to Tamnag. Someone in a nearby pub told us it was good food reasonably priced. But it was neither.

First, the waiter told us we were being rude when we pointed out the mains were both wrong, despite them having a good 25 minutes to get them right. Then he tutted and hissed when we pointed out that my replacement curry was appalling; it basically tasted like something you'd get out of a tin. Then he put two desserts on the bill when we had had none. When we paid the bill, in cash, minus the ghost desserts, and left no tip, he hissed and tutted again

But this all pales into insignificance beside the manager who said the following when I tried to complain: "No, you are wrong, everybody loves Tamnag. You made a mistake". It has to be admitted that we then fell about laughing, told her we would never, ever be back, then left.

It's amazing, isn't it? I mean, how on Earth does this desperate, disgraceful place survive? Reading back over these reviews - and I do wish I'd had a look here before two nights ago, it's a habit I must get into - I honestly don't understand how Tamnag keeps going.

But I do know now that I need to pay more attention to london-eating.co.uk!

Went on Saturday night in a party of 10 of us for a christmas dinner night out. We ordered drinks at the bar before our meal and when the waiter gave us the wrong wine we asked for the right one and he gave us alot of attitude, slamming his pen down, huffing and tutting and being rude afterwards.

Once we sat down they asked straight away for starter order as they were busy, this was fine but when they brought out the starters they were rude and just stood in one place shouting out the dish name rather than asking around the table.

All the currys I find there are very hot, even when they say they are mild. Some of my friends' were too hot to eat.

We were then told at 11 to order our last drinks as they had a license until 11.30 which was fine but when we got our bill they had added an extra bottle of wine.

At 12 o clock they turned some of the lights off, turned the heating off and brought us our coats we hadn't asked for! We all found this very rude to be pushed out!

I also thought it was disgusting when I went to the toilet I had to wait by the dustbins full of everyone's left over dinner.

I have been there for lunch and dinner before and service has also been very slow and they have chased me on the phone for card numbers for a booking.

I just find them very rude so I will not be returning!

We booked a table for 9, they didn't seat us till 20 past. The food was no better than average and it was served by a rude man on a sticky table. When we tried to complain we were told by a manager that everyone loved Tamnag so we must be wrong. We won't go back again.

I went there last night and I wish i read the things about it on on this website. I only Googled Tamnag today and found London Eating. They don't know how to make their customer happy and they was rude to me and my wife cos we arrived 5 minutes late for the table we booked and the table was all sticky and dirty and when my wife said to the waiter "Can we have a clean table please?" the waiter just walk off. We though he was going to find a clean table or a cloth to clean the one we was at but he just come back with the menus. When he come back with the menus and she asked him again he just plonked the menus in front of us and walk off again like he was really insulted by us. I was all for leaving there and then but we stayed and had a meal that can only be described as awful awful awful. The starters were supposed to be satays but they were bits of rubbery chicken from some cheapo supermarket with nasty nut flavoured stuff and they're cold. The mains were just amazingly bad, my curry was cold with a skin on it and tasted like Bisto and my wifes curry was the wrong one and when she told the waiter he took 20 mins to bring her the right one (he said it was becuse they were so busy but the place it was half empty) and when we got the bill they'd doubled the beers saying we'd had four beers when really we'd had two. We paid the exact bill in cash cos we didnt want to put a tip on and we told the woman who took the money that we didn't like it and it was in one ear and out the other she didn't react. Not going there again!

Although i am writing this in the heat of the moment we have been extremely disappointed by our experience of Tamnag Thai tonight. We have just waited almost 2 hours for a take away to arrive, despite ordering it early in the evening to avoid their busiest period. After numerous chasing phone calls the take away finally turned up - BUT, without rice and with lamb instead of beef for one of the main dishes. When we phoned, again, to tell them about the lack of rice it was insinuated that we hadn't ordered rice, but we definitely did. Oh, and of course, the food was all cold when it arrived! We've been told they will call us back to discuss it but we're not holding our breath...

What a shame, in the past we've been really happy with the quality of the food from Tamnag Thai but we'll certainly think very hard indeed before using them again. Time to start looking for another Thai restaurant...

I ordered a take away and went to collect. On arriving home I called the restaurant as one of the two main courses had been left out of the bag. I was told that next time I ordered I will get the item. I asked for them to deliver and was told this isn’t management policy and I would have to come and collect.

I was than put on to the manager who again told me that I could collect or get it next time as they don’t deliver, it is against management policy. Apologising is also against the restaurants policy as none was forthcoming until I asked. I was than told that he couldn’t discuss this any longer as they were busy and the phones were ringing.

After visiting this restaurant over a number of years it really is living on past glories and needs to move on both with its menu (deep fry it) and the service.

I will no longer give them my custom as I’ve had enough of paying inflated prices for the very average bland food and appalling customer service.

We were told we were very lucky as they'd just had a cancellation and we could get a table immediately and they were very busy yet the place was 3/4 empty and when we were sat we had to wait half an hour before they take out order and then it was a good 20 minutes before the starter arrived then they try to take our plates before we were finished and put the main courses down. The food was below average it was like youd buy a ready meal from tescos. The waitress was real rude to my boyfriend when he asked for a glass of tap water she said they didn't do tap water, surely that's against the law? We didn't have a dessert just asked for the bill but there was a dessert on the bill so we told the manageress and she said we had a dessert and wouldn't go and check with the waitress so we eventually just paid in cash as near as we could with no dessert and left wth the manageress having a right go at us in front of everyone. I hated it, really hated it, am never going back there again and I would recomend that you steered clear of it for ever. Awful place.

A group (8 of us) went there last night. My friend who made the initial booking a week ago was told we were to be there for 7:15pm and we had to leave by 9:30pm. When we arrived last night our waitress was really rude pointing at her watch we had to leave by 9:30pm. She was not pleasant when taking our order saying "give me number not name" and throughout the rest of the service. In fairness it was just her, the rest of the staff we met were a little warmer and more friendly to their paying customers. We had no complaints about the food or the wine. We all agreed that we were not happy with the serivce and as a group decided not to pay the service charge, which when our bill arrived, came to £20. We explained to the waitress we were not paying the service charge, we were told we had to as we were a group of 8 (actually the service charge is 10% of the final bill to groups of 6 or more and is discretionary). However my friend had to give her name and address and explain why we were not paying the service charge. Would we go there again? No

Rather surprised to see al these negative reviews about this restaurant. I've been going there since 2002 and have always had only excellent experince of the place. The food is always fresh (yes, it does take a while to arrive at your table, but it's well worth the wait!), the service is good. Only once I had a problem with a cocktail - it was too sweet, but turn out that night they had someone new mixing them. The cocktail was replace without a question! Compared to other thai restaurants I've visited in the past, it is definitely one of the best. The menu is not the same old stuff you get everywhere else, it IS freshly cooked, no MSG is used to flavour the dishes (which is a big thing for me as my son and I are both allergic to it) and it is VERY reasonably priced! In fact I love it there so much, that it was one of the reasons I was reluctant to move too far from the area (there is one other restaurant in Crystal Palace that I love equally as much, but that's another story ;o) )
