I agree with the previous review. We went there last night and I ordered the Steamed Sefood Curry and it was lovely but it took 35 minutes for them to get it to the table what were they doing catching the fish? The waitress was very rude when I complaine that it was taking ages, she said it wasn't that long, basically calling me a liar and why didn't we just have another drink. so we ordered a nother drink and it never came! When the curry finally came it was lovely, but there was also a bottle of wine we didn't have on the bill. We wont be going back tehre again.

We went there last night (12.04.07). Now, we’ve been there before, and while their service can be a bit variable, I adore their Tam Yum soups and Steamed Seafood Curry. I’ve tried very few of their other dishes, so this time I ordered Thai Fishcakes to start, followed by a Duck and Cashew Curry. I soooooo wish I hadn’t. The Fishcakes, when they finally arrived a good 20 minutes after being ordered, had no flavour at all, and I’m not exaggerating. They tasted of nothing, and the texture was awful, all rubbery and hard. And the Duck was no better – a few limp bits of duck in what tasted like ready meal gravy, with a melange of awful veg, some soft and mushy, obviously having been on a hotplate all day, some nearly raw (I’m still burping manky green pepper as I write this, nearly 15 hours later) – there was no curry flavour at all. The service was brusque to the point of rudeness (we were interrogated closely as to why we didn’t want rice several times, and when I got Pepsi instead of the Coke I’d ordered and asked for it to be changed, the waitress simply walked away and didn’t come back till the end of the meal), and they twice tried to take our starter plates away before we’d finished – this despite a 20 minute wait for the next course. Sadly, my wife wouldn’t let me complain, but I shall be voting with my feet, and not going there again. In future, we’ll get the Tam Yum soup and Steamed Seafood Curry delivered to our house.
One final point, the guys at the next table, who we’d got talking to, spotted a bottle of wine and a dessert they hadn’t had on their bill, and had to get the bill reprinted…

Interesting to hear that other people have found the service at Tamnag Thai to be variable. I've lived in the area for over three years, and over that time the service at this restaurant has deteriorated. To make matters worse, a complaint doesn't seem to help; management obviously feel they can afford to let unhappy customers go. Still, visit on a good night and you'll find it well worth your while. Avoid Sundays. For some reason they're a nightmare. Try midweek, when things are quiet, and food seems to get a bit more love and attention. Unfortunately customers get the same cold reception they do at any other time. So if poor customer service gives you indigestion, go elsewhere.

Have been here many times and absolutely love it! Have never had a bad experience and everyone we have ever taken there has loved it. By far the best Thai food in London. Does get a busy and sometimes looks a bit chaotic but I think that adds to the charm. It's certainly a good sign of a good restaurant when it's ALWAYS busy. FANTASTIC!

Unlike most people I have tried a lot of Thai restaurants due to my job & I can honestly say that Tamnag Thai is one of the best thai restaurants in south London.
The food is great the service is good & the al-round atmosphere is first class.
It's sad when people who's main diet is pizza & fish & chips don't appreciate good food, but when they do experience the exotic asian foods they just complain about something they don' understan & know.

I'm new to the area and can't praise the Tamnag Thai restaurant enough. Our party of four, (three of which are hoteliers)
arrived on a busy Saturday night with no reservation. The staff were very courteous, the service was friendly and slick. The food was amazing and well presented. Atmosphere was lively and the bill very reasonable. This will defintely be a regular of ours.

We arrived Thursday 12th October at 20:30 without a booking. We were seated within ten minutes, and our order was taken promptly.
After nearly an hour we had received no food at all, while a table next to us who'd arrived concurrently were paying their bill.
The staff had studiously avoided eye contact the whole time, but we eventually managed to talk to one, who told us that food would be another 10 minutes, then another told us 15.
We grudgingly paid for our drinks, and went home hungry.

Let me start out by saying that I recognise that everyone tends to remember poor service far more readily than good - and perhaps everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt when you experience what might have been an 'off-night'. However the service we recently experienced was downright shocking and quite unforgiveable.
As a local resident I have visited Tamnag Thai over many years and have been one its biggest fans. The food always seemed so good you were prepared to overlook the variable service. On our last visit we had the misfortune to be served with a waitress who clearly felt she had better things to be doing and far better people to be dealing with than pesky customers! After leading us to our table and then ignoring us for ten minutes someone else came and took our drink order. She eventually came up took our food order and practically snatched the menus out of our hands. After about 30 mins my girlfriend's main course arrived - mine was nowhere to be seen. Another ten minutes passed and my suspicion that my dish was sat on the chef's serving counter (we were sat with a view to the kitchen) was proved right when I asked another waitress to please investigate. Low and behold it was my dish and as soon as it was put down in front of me I could instantly see it was cold (the sauce has started congealing to the edge of the metal dish) - a quick taste confirmed it.
I attempted to catch our waitress' eye (studiously ignored). Another waitress did eventually come over and I explained the situation and asked for a new freshly cooked replacement (beef/black been sauce - i.e. a quick dish) and stressed I did not want a reheat. Sad to say back it came after 10 mins while they pretended to 'cook' me another. How do I know? The tell-tale signs of burnt sauce around the edge of the dish from being shoved under the grill.. It remained uneaten.
By this time I was losing the will to live and asked for the bill to be brought over by our waitress. When she did I explained my dissatisfaction with the evening and the saga with my meal and asked for her to remove the item from the bill. At first she refused, then changed her mind, then took my credit card and left it with the bill by the till and went off to wander around the floor. Clearly a message in here for me having the temerity to complain! She deliberately ignored all attempts to gain her attention and it wasn't until one of her colleagues responded to my chasing that we got the bill.
This used to be a good place to eat and a good night out but I'm afraid that it has become a victim of its own success and is now an arrogant, crass production line without any semblance of customer interest or attention. Only dine here if prepared for such a risk - I shall never spend my hard earned money in this place again.

Beautifully decorated with authentic Thai adornments, Tamnag Thai has a wonderfully friendly and warm atmosphere.
Reasonable prices and fabulous cuisine this restaurant is definately a hidden gem in London's south east. If you haven't been there already - it's a must!
