By chance I came across this restaurant while out shopping with my boyfriend on a Sunday in Crystal Palace. No prior bookings were made. The restuarant was full when we enter, no prior book was made, yet we didn't have a long wait. The staff was very curtuous and created a lovely atmosphere. But above all the food was second to none and unbelievably the meal wasn't pricey. I would definitely be going back.

We just moved to Crystal Palace and last night we were looking for a place to dine so we saw Tamnag Thai ,we went in and I was really shocked by the way we were greeted, for a second I thought we are a member of the royal family, very warm and friendly staff. The restaurant was nearly full we asked for a table for 4, they asked us if we had a booking we said no. they asked us to sit at the bar to check if they got any place for us after a few minutes they showed us our table. we sat and we been looked after very well .great atmosphere fantastic service friendly staff ,we had the best ever Thai food in my life not even in Thailand they do it the way they cooked it .I will for sure put this restaurant first on my list . Soon going to get married and I am going to book the whole restaurant for our wedding just hope they agree as its going to be 100 plus .well done Tamnag Thai thx so much for the great evening we had a night I never forget .if u really looking for a good night out try Tamnag Thai.

I've had deliveries from them before and they were quite good but this was the first time I ate there. The service was absolutely terrible, it took 19 minutes to get a beer, a further 17 minutes to get our starter, and a further 22 minutes after we finished our starters before we got our main course. When our mains arrived, mine was stone cold, and a skin had formed on the sauce so I sent it back asking for a new serving but I got exactly the same plate back, complete with the bit missing where I'd tried it but it had obviously been nuked in a micowave cos it was now too hot to eat. The waiter was rude and didnt care about us until I paid the bill. I put exactly the right amount of money down and he said "No tip?". I said "No the service wasn't good enough" and he tutted and hissed. I wont be going there agin and I'm not even sure if I will be getting their deliveries either.

After reading some of the reviews on this restaurant, I have to say, I was a tad concerned about going there last night for a family birthday meal.

But, my husband said to me before we left 'you never know, we might be pleasantly suprised' - and we were.

When we arrived they didn't seem to be expecting our party of 12 - and there were a few confused looking staff members. I thought - 'ooh, here we go'....

It turned out they had us down as a party of 10. Anyway, the confusion was sorted within a few minutes and we were seated, ordered our drinks (which kept coming all night).

The waitress was lovely and was very attentive about my peanut allergy issues, the food was lovely (although we did have to wait a while for the mains to arrive, but we were all enjoying the company and the atmosphere, so it didn't matter too much - and they were very busy).

They were happy for us to bring in a birthday cake and our waitress and numerous other staff and customers all sang happy birthday. One of the waiters chatted to the menfolk in the party about the football, and all the staff bid us a fond farewell when we left.

Oh, and the bill wasn't inflated (that we noticed!) and we happily paid the service charge.

Maybe they've bucked up their ideas in Tamnag, or maybe we just caught them on a good night (a busy Saturday) - but I would definitely go back and won't believe everything I read in future..

This place has gone to the dogs! I used to eat there when I lived in Crystal Palace 5 years ago but last night was shocking bad. The staff were rude and lazy and uncaring. The food could have come from Kwik Save and the bill had service not optional on it. We refused to pay for the service and when the manageress threatened to call the police we went "Go on then" and she changed her mind and told us to get out which we did willingly. So sad to see a once fine place sunk so terribly low.

Booking = forgotten.

Seated = after 20 minutes wait.

Table = filthy. Wiped with a dirty rag.

People at the enxt table = arguing with the manageress over corked wine.

Orders taken = after another 20 mins, someone who could speak English would have been a real help.

Starters = either wrong, or inedible.

Replacements = equally poor.

Mains = either wrong, or inedible.

Replacements = equally poor, or didn't arrive.

Soft drinks = wrong.

Beer = warm.

Service throughout = rude, very rude indeed.

Bill = padded.

Going again = not a chance.

I was with my friend below when we had this hilarious dining experience at Tamnag Thai. I have to say though, the thing that annoyed me the most was the fact that the service charge added to the bill was not optional. When we challenged this due to the shockingly bad service and asked for it to be removed the female head waitress stormed off in a huff which i thought summed up the waiting staff!

We visited Tamnag with friends living in the area on a Friday night, a group of seven. The atmosphere was fairly busy and lively, as you'd expect from on a Friday night. Unfortunately the service was almost non existant (with an honourable mention for one chap, I think the head waiter, who walked around being freindly and amusing all evening!).

Starters (or those that arrived) on the whole were tasty, including my girlfriend's fishcakes which we at one point thought had turned out to be unexpeted fortune fishcakes before realising it was white plastic wrapping and not mystic musings she was chewing on.

Sadly the main courses didn't match up to this auspicious start. A few of our group's courses weren't too bad. However, our waiter (perhaps due to language difficulties) had taken down a some of our orders incorrectly and one was completely forgotten. We politley sent back the incorrect meals (sweet & sour pork given and not chicken, sizzling chilli beef instead of beef in black bean) and they returned within 5 minutes. Unfortunately, whether in an issue to cut costs or due to them taking zero pride in what they send out for customers when busy, the sweet & sour chicken came back still tasting of pork and my new beef dish turned out to be the originally served one put on a different plate with black bean sauce poured over it! Rank.

We all left for the pub with smiles on our faces having had an amusing, slightly surreal, but ultimately poor dining experience vowing never to return. However, it was cheap and perhaps food and service would have been better on a quieter evening (though the comments below appear to suggest not).
