Dali Cafe
our review
After the hussle and bussle of tourists surrounding the London Eye it was a calm and peaceful haven in the Dali Café with a lovely mix of lunchers; mums with kids, students and oap’s and a very relaxed ‘holiday’ feelin its bright, airy and clean space.
My guest and I first ordered a couple of Dali home made juices as it was an extremely hot and stuffy day. All named after Dali’s creations we chose, ‘Woman Aflame’, - melon, pear, grape and beetroot and ‘Dalinian Dancer’ mango, apple, passion fruit and orange. They were definitely home made, fresh and absolutely beautiful to look at. They tasted divine (although we were a little uneasy at first at the surreal mix of flavours), and at £2.50 each were a bargain.
We ordered nibbles of feta cheese with sun blushed tomatoes and a bowl of mixed olives, which was accompanied by a selection of home made breads. The bread was fabulous and a real treat of rustic charm.
Wild mushrooms with tarragon on toast followed. Again, these were fresh and although a little too buttery had a lovely flavour. Unfortunately the bread served with this dish was not home-made and was a little disappointing after being spoilt earlier. My guest ordered hot roasted belly of pork with a sweet mustard sauce. This was ok, but hardly ‘melting’ and rather bland and fatty, although the accompanying side salad was fresh and crisp.
A small, but exceptionally good wine list is offered and we had two excellent, perfectly chilled, glasses of white Torres.
The home- made cake selection tempted us to order huge slices of treacle pudding and lemon cake. Again, these looked wonderful but the treacle pudding was a bit heavy and akin to school dinners and although the lemon cake was light and fluffy, the lemon ingredient was somewhat absent.
Filter coffee and a camomile tea were next in order to wash down the cakes. The coffee was extremely good and the tea served in a huge cup was very refreshing.
This is not the type of café to lounge in, but great for a lunch break with quick service and hot food brought to your table. Generally good value for money and although most of the food is genuinely home made it lacks some consistency. From the promising start of the juices and bread it was a bit downhill from there, with the exception of good tea and coffee at the finish.
