Le Petit Nantais, Le Bistro

This is a lovely local restaurant. It serves fresh food, there are always 'specials' and it is family run. What a wonderful change from the chains and microwave/boil-in-the-bag food served in the pubs and chain restaurants in the area.
If you are looking for inventive Michellin-starred cuisine, then this is not for you. If you are looking for a relaxed evening with friends, where there is friendly service and typical French Bistro food, then I would recommend this restaurant.

I find some of the negative reviews very surprising as in my considerable experiance of this restaurant I have always been well received. My family and I have eaten at this wonderful Bistro a number of times, including birthday celebrations, anniversaries, New Year and always had a fantastic meal. The atmosphere is relaxed and efficient, the prices good value. Its a very "french" bistro, not too anglisised as many become in the Uk that serves wonderful food, including excellanet sea food. The garlic prawns are to die for and when in season, the lamp shank has the best sauce I have ever tasted and I have travelled widely. Top marks to Jean Philipe and his staff - please keep it up!

We've been here twice now and have decided to come at least once a month. It is exactly what it professes to be; (excellent) simple French bistro-style food, at reasonable prices, with friendly and personal service. The only down side is that the wine we've had so far has been average, but that's not enough to stop this place being our new local.
Much better than places with prices twice as much, and pretensions that miss the whole point of simple French cooking.

The service was very slow. We tried lunch here, and 2 courses without dessert took almost one and a half hours, and we were the only clients, until the second course when someone else entered the place. The food wasn't worth the wait.

A couple of weeks ago i went to this restaurant and to be prefectly honest i cant understand why people are being so detremental. This restaurant does not profess to be anything but what it is...a bistro. this assumption that is made by others that because it is french the service must be of michelin quality is proposterous! it is a small, family run business with no intention of competing with the chains. My meal 2 weeks ago, and prior to that have been incredible. I think these other people need to remember that they are in a little road in hampton court, NOT highstreet kensington. A definite recommendation by me!

I chose this restaurant having heard good things about it. Unfortunately my first experience with 6 guests was appaling, the frites were very poor and the response from the chef/owner was extremely defensive and offensive, quite over the top. Never again, a great shame as it has tremendous potential and it can do it when it can be bothered. Pot luck!

For years I would drive past this restaurant, wondering as to what it might be like. Then the day came, and had a quick lunch. Wonderful. Next time was with my wife and children, this time, Magnificent!! The next time, with 12 friends and children. Not only were we well catered for, we had the long table, course after course, for at least six hours. Never hurried.
Then we booked several tables for New Year, two years ago. Relaxed atmosphere, allowing us to have epic foodfights, where umbrellas were erected!!! I would go there, anytime.

I have been to this restaurant now on four occasions as I live very locally. The first time was a shocker. Salty mussels (not cleaned) and stinky disgusting frite (Old oil). The best thing was the wine which was cheap and fab. It was a good year later when we decided to give it another try and since then we have had lovely food and very good value. I would recommend.

I think the great reviews this bistro has received is due to the poor competition, rather than anything the bistro does well.
Ask for bread? ask for finger bowls, ask for water. Nothing is offered. Some dishes are first class and others are very poor. It's a real hit and miss affair.
It's a shame because it could be great, problem is they already believe they are.
