what the critics say

The London Paper

Feargus O'Sullivan

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - Calling Tendido Cuatro to make my booking, I was haughtily informed we were allowed the table for a measly, churlish, rubbish 90 minutes. Naturally, I wasn’t best pleased, having made a personal pledge to avoid both Yauatcha and Hakkasan in the past for similar treatment (pay attention, Alan Yau). But, for the good of journalism, I behaved myself, arrived bang on time, ordered and ate briskly.

My experience at the Tendido Cuatro was last saturday. The food was excellent and the service was great! They welcome us at the door, and they definately treated us right. Food was brought to us in record time. I loved the atmosphere and the way things were run. The waiters and waitress' always made sure that everybody had what they wanted and served everyone promptly. They even had excellent coffee!

My family & I recently visited Tendido Cuatro Restaurant to see what all the hype was about. Definitely worth the trip. Off the beaten path, away from the strip, actually located in a quiet area. Service was impeccable, food was exceptional, wine list was extensive, delicious cocktails (try T-cuatro)

It was a good thing we visited on a Wednesday night, which was amazing. Attention to detail was very impressive, and ambiance was a truly spanish atmosphere! The manager look after us, he recomnded a really good quality-price wine!

I recommend it widely

I agree with the other comments on the website. Excellent Cava - good value for money at £5.75, the calamari and tomato salad are good. All was fine (apart from a bit of Basil Fawlty service from the waitress who did not understand English at all) until we got to the tortilla. I have eaten far and wide and both up and down the price ladder but £5.50 for a sliver of tortilla espanola, which lets face it is only eggs and potato (hardly the commodities which have increased so much in recent days) and I had to have a word. The manager (not sure this is a good description)...was unbelieveably rude and said I was the first person to complain, and that I had complained about the Cava as well (I just wanted to know if we could buy the rest of the bottle after we had drunk two glasses....and they did not understand so we ordered another two instead...) and that it was totally unacceptable. He was not prepared to listen at all and was a great example of how not to deal with customers and how not to manage a restaurant.

The food is good if in general a bit expensive but that is what you get in Fulham so not a issue...the tortilla must have more profit margin than LVMH and the manager who claimed he was part owner and that no one had ever complained before should be sacked before he annoys/does not listen to the next customer. All could have been solved by an extra slice or tortilla....and BTW I agree that the bread is a scandal in 2008 in London...no excuse...and you pay extra for it....

I suggest you either stick to limited menu and tolerate the rubbish service or better still go somewhere else...

I don't believe a food critic didn't enjoy this place unless his not a food critic , maybe he has a food business across the road. Cheeky!! THE BEST TAPAS I HAVE EVER HAD!!! I am not saying anything else , if you like Spanish food GO you are going to have a great surprise.

We chose to go there last week disregarding the last reviewer (he might be right or wrong but as a food critic...he is tasteless!).

There are many Tapas places in London these days but only a few manage to achieve the true Spanish approach. Well, Tendido Cuatro is one of them. The service, selection of tapas and wines made us feel like at home (Spain). Our Gazpacho , manzanilla olives, ham croquettes, razor clams , prawns in garlic and grilled chorizo together with an outstanding Ribera del Duero may have no rival in London

Some of the best tapas i have ever eaten, as good or better than anything I have tried in Madrid, Barcelona or London for that matter. I always enjoyed Tendido Cero and this is every bit as good if not better. Every dish we tried was outstanding, the service faultless and the atmosphere buzzy yet relaxed. From the dishes we ate the following stood at as being exceptional:

Fois Gras with PX and Green apple cubes

Chorizo in cider

Croquetas

potatas bravas

Jamon Iberico

razor clams

I'm a huge fan of Tendido Cera so when it's sister opened round the corner I was thrilled. Unfortunately my joy was short lived - the fois gras was like butter, the grilled prawns tasted of something that wasn't prawns and the calamari was the same. The rose, however, was absolutely delicious!

A thoroughly uninspiring forty minutes or so (I should stress here that the place was, and given its location, will continue to be, buzzing, and that I was only allocated some space, on a four-top already booked for later in the evening, on the basis that I was happy to eat and leave in half an hour or so - my choice, and no complaints about the service, which was o.k. - efficient enough, but a bit graceless).

The other restaurants in this small group have a great reputation, and in that context, this was a real disappointment. £17.00 for a plate of "virutas" (chippings) of ham that had been hacked hours earlier and left to die under a layer of cling film on the bar was not a good start. If you go to the trouble of buying a supposedly high quality, Pata Negra, acorn-snaffling ham, but don't know how to carve or serve it, then don't bother...and the ham in question, disregarding its provenence, wasn't that good. Follow up with the sort of part-baked, frozen rolls that come from a well-known "French" concern, bland gambas al ajillo (not enough garlic, no chili, no parsley, no oil...just a few mimsy little trimmings of chive floating in butter- what's that all about? The prawns were sweet and nicely cooked, however - nothing if not scrupulously fair, me) a limited selection of wines (and weirdly described - if Torres' Milmanda is "earthy and bone dry" you can paint my ass blue and call me a Tory) albeit a decent enough range of sherries, but hopeless, watery coffee, and you end up with one disgruntled punter wishing that he'd just carried on heading east, rather than stopping and wasting three-quarters of an hour and almost £40.00
