We had dinner here the other night, and found the place to be buzzing. Didn't realise that they had such a great space to the rear of the pub for dinning. Food was excellant and we walked away only spending £40 for the 2 of us. Wife did a bit of celeb spotting with one of the boys from boyzone dining and Terry Gilliam at the next table. If you haven't been before this place is sure to impress, if like us you have just moved to the area here is your new local.

This gastro pub has quite a good reputation in the local area, which is why we decided to try it out. We found the service to be pretty poor (we ordered wine and it failed to materialise until we had asked for it two or three times). Food was very average and disappointing considering the high prices. We would not eat here again.

This place used to be the business! Food was always excellent but now varies too much in quality. The lager, particularly the Staropramen, is equally temperamental where it was always a favourite tiple when stopping off on my way from Muswell Hill into town. Wine list is impressive, but again a little pricey - still, love to pop in on a Friday or Saturday night- the place can be jumping with friendly party people! A changeable pub but still the best in the area!

I highly recommend the Victoria Stakes pub and restaurant - it is undoubtedly one of the best pubs in this part of London (N8/N10). Dont' be put off by it's location, which is a bit odd, set at the bottom of Muswell Hill; it's well worth the effort and does generate a really great atmosphere when I've been there - full to the rafters and usually on a weekend/bank holiday. It has a great garden area which again would be brilliant when filled up (it's inevitably a bit lonely when it's just a few).
In my opinion the Victoria Stakes is a brilliant pub for chilling out with a bottle of wine and some of the great tapas style nibbles. I have also eaten in the restaurant upstairs and it was excellent, with very good service (a bit pricey for a 'regular' outing).

I have just moved into the area and discovered the Victoria Stakes. Having tried some of the bar food and found it great value and quality we tried the upstairs restaurant. Apart from being a lovely space the food was exceptional and again well priced. Staff were prompt and wine was quality. After reading the last 2 reviews all I will say is try it. I loved the place, you probably will two.

Really disappointing place. I had always wanted to eat here, thinking it looked lovely, so came for my special birthday meal - big mistake! There was only one 'vegetarian option', involving the ubiquitous mushroom of course, and when we requested other vegetarian choices I was told I should have the crab salad and just pick the crab out. There wasn't 'too much crab in it' apparently. Nice. I wish I was joking. When we got up to leave, without ordering, the waiter wasn't bothered, but the manager did come after us and offer to have something else made up... Too little too late I'm afraid though. Definitely wouldn't recommend it, definitely will not visit again, definitely ruined my birthday!

Visited the upstairs restaurant on a Friday night. It was very quiet with only a couple of tables taken. Scallops for starter was ok to begin. I then had fillet steak for mains and was really disappointed. I'd asked for it to be medium and it was pretty well done which ruined it and made it very tough to eat. The best thing about the meal was the chips! I had chocolate brownie for dessert and again it was very average, not very tasty and the ice-cream tasted like the cheap own brand stuff you'd get from a supermarket. Although the food and atmosphere was a let down, the Chilean savignon blanc was very drinkable. Value for money was very poor and I wouldn't return although I'm told the garden restaurant is lovely in the summer.

Can't quite believe some of the negative comments displayed here, particularly the one regarding frozen potatos etc. Eaten here a number of times on a Sunday and been really impressed by the service, atmosphere, yummy food and general relaxed vibe of the place. Each time I visit I wonder how come I don't come more often. Great place to impress visiting guests. Good tunes, nice decor and really friendly staff.

Had a really lovely lazy lunch last week with a friend in the main bar, lounging on the huge leather sofas. The food was excellent and good value for money at ten quid for 2 courses. The barman was extremely welcoming and helpful too. Victoria Stakes is a comfortable, non-pretentious, good old fashioned pub and I would highly recommend it for an afternoon of doing nothing!
