Every few years I come to London and since 20 years Khan's is a must. Last visit was 2003. So last week we came to London again.
We've bee to Khan's last Wednesnay. The waiters were unfriendly and it was not allowed to drink Wine and beer. So we left before ordering and we will never return.

Lunched there a couple of days ago and had a great meal. My wife & I took four youngsters and a good time was had by all. A bit empty, but that's what one expects on a December Monday. No complaints about staff or service and the food was as good a curry as anyone could wish for. My ten year old son's Chicken Bhuna was outstanding and is what I shall order myself next time. There was too much food for three fourteen year old boys! £11 a head all in.

Possibly one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant was my visit to Khan's. It was ONCE an august establishment that had pride in its cooking and service, no more. We had cold food thrust at us - then when we asked for the food to be heated it was brought back to us stirred but unheated. I told the waiter where to go, politely of course, and asked for the manager who tried to argue that eating a cold curry was appetizing. I told him where to go, politely. We paid for that part of the meal that was edible a couple of drinks and were off away ne'er to return.

I would have scored this place higher had my friends and I not been charged £15 for a jug of mango lassi and £13.50 for a jug of sweet lassi. These are pi55 take prices.
Food came pretty promptly and cooled down just as promptly suggesting it was microwaved. Taste was okay - no better or worse than any other Indian joint in London.
I score Khan's 3/10. Down one notch from 4/10 cos of the lassi pricing.

Plentiful portions and no-frills service suit the clattering, chattering atmosphere. If you are looking for a chilled Kingfisher or Cobra to cool the curry, this is NOT your kind of place! I have to say this was my first beer-free Indian meal ever!
I dig the deco-ish palm fronds stuck to the ceiling.
Not in any hurry to go back, especially in a town brimming with good subcontinent kitchens...

I've been here a couple of times.
To be frank the food wasn't that good and the waiters were'nt too friendly.
I ordered the chicken curry with rice, I was'nt asked how hot I wanted the chicken and it came back to me VERY mild with a terrible coconut after taste. My two grlfriends orderd the same and not one of us could finish our food. It was bland, I had to order CHIPS to get the taste of of my mouth.
Coke was over priced.
When we asked to be seated further towards the back they would'nt let us even though we had gone for lunch and the place was empty!
Would not go back.

Fantastic food. Me and my friend always meet here when we catch up for dinner and havent been disappointed yet. We usually order a main each, nan, poppadums and about 3 sides with rice and some sweet or mango lassies and pay about £12-£14 each inc service.I dont know if the waiters are miserable or just expressionless? " service with a smile we always joke " , but theyre not rude, bring your order out quick enough and are always around if you need anything. would recommend this place for great Indian food with good value for money.

I love Khan's. From the line-up in the coat hall waiting for a table, to the paper table cloths unceremoniously ripped off your table to be replaced by a clean one, to the hurried shouted out orders taken, to the arrival of the wonderful food, to the quiet that descends on the table as everyone loses themselves in the food, to the friendly waiters who, despite language barriers, gave toys and attention to my 2 year old.
I travel from the U.S. to London frequently. EVERY time I land, there are two things I must do first to settle in. The first is to take the Tube to Trafalgar Square and spend some time there. The second is dinner that night at Khan's.
It's not just dinner. It's an event.
I've brought all of my family members and three of my friends there. It remains for them, as well, one of the big highlights of their visits.

As a single, I am in Khan's every week for the vegetable thali. Yes - I said "vegetable thali."
This review is therefore based solely on that product, which is, I think, the best deal in the restaurant:
at just under £8, it's great value:: Popadum, Naan, Sag, Alu Gobi, Mixed Veg., Raita, and Dhal - all served with rice.
The service is not great, but the waiters are fine if you accost them in a friendly way. I normally just wander up to the desk to pay my bill, otherwise one could wait all day.
Great fuel to set you up for the week. It's open ALL DAY on Saturdays and sundays so you can just cruise in and enjoy.
(By the way, I have had their giant Tandoori Prawns as well and those are also good. I cannot speak for the meat dishes - had them some years ago and didn't like. But the veg are great.)
