Tuesday, July 29, 2008 - The look of Jom Makan ('Let's Eat') is determinedly mid-market. Only rather odd staff uniforms, based on traditional Malaysian dress, give any indication of what kind of food is on offer.

completely let down by this restaurant! the menu promises alot with its dense description but be prepared for what is actually delivered- food lacking in flavour and in misely portions at a totally over priced rate!! service was also poor- serving my partners dish first, making me wait for mine, clearing the table whilst we are still eating, etc better to take your money elsewhere and leave feeling full and content!

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to Jom Makan!

I used to go the Trafalgar Sq branch when I worked in the area and I did like it, a lot. I hadn't been there for nearly 18 months and I have no idea what they've done to the place in that time.

The food was vile. The Hainanese chicken was basically breaded chicken with garlic mayo whilst I had to send my Nasi Lemak Ayam back to the kitchen because the chicken was undercooked. Not OK!

And they weren't even apologetic about it, instead the two cooks were staring at me with a grin whilst I was eating their second attempt, it made me feel really uncomfortable.

Honestly, I will never go back there again!

Absolutely appalling. I have never felt this way about any other Malaysian restaurant in London before. Overpriced meal - not as described in menu. Avoid!

Staff very nice and place is clean. But the food is absolutely not good! I had a Nasi Lamak, and it was not that at all! My dish had a lot of peanuts on a side, and the chicken as just a plain curry chicken and a cold hard boiled egg... absolutely tasteless...! Not the Nasi Lamak I had in Asia at all!! Very disappointing! Should have gone a bit further to a Thai place down near Leicester Square..!

Jom Makan doesn't represent an authentic Malaysian cuisine at all! I have English friends who have tasted real Malay foods and they also said similar thing. Jom makan is awful. There was not a single Malaysian staff when I went there. The chefs don't even know how to cook real Malaysian meal as they are not Malaysian themselves. When we asked the manager, they said it's because they are not targeting Malaysians, but more to the British people. I mean seriously, I think it's okay to reduce the spiciness of the food to suits their taste buds but at least make a good and pure Malaysian cuisine! People already think, 'So, is this what Malaysian food is all about? Terrible.'' I am embarrassed.

A bit of a functional atmosphere, in my opinion, but the food is good value and the service was fast and attentive when I went (albeit not a busy time)

I’d eaten at Jom Makan Westfield recently on an early Christmas shopping spree and had a really lovely meal. I’d got chatting to the friendly staff who mentioned that they had a sister restaurant located on Pall Mall. As a group of pals and I had a planned trip to theatreland after doing yet more Christmas shopping, I suggested we pay a visit to Jom Makan Pall Mall and have a pre-theatre bite to eat.

This did not disappoint either. Being a creature of habit, I again opted for Beef Rendang and Mee Goreng. Just as I’d remembered at Westfield … Gorgeous! As a couple of my pals are vegetarians, they were very pleased to see a nice array of vegetarian dishes. We’ll definitely be going back. I may even introduce Malay food to my not so adventurous partner … I think he’ll love it too!

I can't imagine many people would check restaurant reviews before heading to Westfield, but if you do then avoid this place.

We chose it as they had a decent selection of vegetarian food (30% of the menu). We were sat down then 30 seconds later another waiter arrived and asked what we wanted to order. We explained we had just arrived and hadn't looked at the menu. But he was back again in another minute asking again for our order.

When we came to order the staff were nowhere to be seen. When we did find them they didn't seem particularly interested in serving us.

Starter was a £5.50 deep fried mixture (3 different items in 7 pieces). Wasn't particularly tasty - not much different from those £1 per dozen deep fried snack boxes from Iceland supermarket.

I ordered a beer and started pouring it into the glass just as I saw something in the bottom of the glass. Not sure what it was but I used my spoon to scoop out out from the froth. The glass was fairly dirty but I couldn't be bothered hassling the staff given the effort required to attract their attention.

Mains averaged £9. They bought rice instead of the roti canai my partner had asked for but they quickly took it away and bought the correct dish a few minutes later. It was excessively spiced with chillies and didn't have much flavour to it.

I've travelled to Malaysia many times and my Nasi Lemak wasn't like any I'd tasted in Malaysia, presumably it was a Westernised version. It was okay but nothing special.

We visited on a cold day. Just past the entrance door there is a large glass wall that served to below cold air onto the backs of diners on both sides of the restaurant. Several tables near us were complaining about this too. This is the sort of thing that could easily be solved with an additional door either side that could be kept shut on cold days. In the meantime keep your coat on inside this place.

It would be easy for this place to massively improve the food, service and entrance door. Until they do so I'd recommend avoiding it. At least there's plenty of other restaurant options at Westfield.

I regret , really regret should have read the reviews on Jom Makan restaurant in London before we went there!!

Being a Malaysian myself its a shame and disgrace for this restaurant to cheat on the Malaysian recipies.

My partner ordered fried Keow Teow bt ended up having curry mee! If the mix up was done in Malaysia the curry mee would taste more tastier , but this was a bowl of coconut milk ! The curry looks more like a greenish thick creamy sauce.

I ordered nasi goreng kampung, felt like eating a plate of shrimp paste! The rice was cooked with awfull lot of shrimp paste(belacan) and quite oily.

Well to make it short , to all my malaysian friends out there and those who love asian food by all means avoid this Jom Makan restaurant. Its not authentic, and it's not Malaysian food , and its not worth paying for it. Far too expensive.

I do cook myself , so I was really dissappointed with both of the dishes we ordered. I wonder how in the world the chefs are qualified to cook Malaysian food in the first place??!

I totally agree with KHOO if you want the real taste of Malaysian foord please go to Kopitiam and C&R. Jom makan is a disgrace for Malaysian cuisine.

We went there a few weeks ago and found the food served very tasteless and disappointing. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone as there are other and much better Malaysian restaurants in London, e.g. C&R and Malaysian Kopitiam.

Sorry but Jom Makan is not woth a try!
