Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - I’ve yet to hear of anyone else being wildly impressed by a proper Turkish restaurant in London. Kazan would appear to be an exception. Its Pimlico location is an institution with a passionately loyal following. Hardly surprising, then, that Kazan’s owners spotted profit in expansion. Hence the opening of a new restaurant in Houndsditch Street…Kazan was humming at 8pm on a Thursday night, and was full to the gills with well-clad young people, making a lot of noise and having a good time. The Ottoman-style furnishings create an atmosphere of louche and the bar area is truly inviting with its cushions, deep chairs and golden light.

This place is the best! My Boyfriend and I went there a while ago and we loved it so much we've been back several times, and have even taken his family there who are Turkish. They loved it, we loved it and we will continue to go there.

The decor is very traditional, with an eastern european theme but also done in a very modern, classy way. The food and drink is delicious (I recommend the rose ice-cream for desert and the spicy tea) and the manager, Leonard, was very friendly, attentive and also very funny. We have always got our food fast and hot, and the portions are very good, unlike some restaurants.

This is a great place! You must go!

We ate there on a Monday night at the beginning of November. The welcome was warm, attentive without being ingratiating. The room is lovely, tables set well apart. The food was good, the service friendly. Five of us ate with wine and beer, all reasonably priced - cheaper than Norwich!

I would happily recommend Kazan - we will go again.

We booked a table for 3 people about 3 weeks ago for dinner tonight, but they just called us to say that they are cancelling our booking because they have some large parties tonight. I think it's disgraceful that a restaurant feels that it should favour large groups over smaller groups. The fact that we had booked our table 3 weeks ago obviously means nothing to them. We will never be going back to this restaurant and will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.

Took a friend here for a mini celebration.

The restaurant has lots of pictures of the bar which does look very nice and cosy but it is tiny and the actual seating area is lacking in the same atmosphere as the bar but was nice enough.

We went on a Tuesday nice on a 50% off offer and so it was busy but not heaving and they certainly seem to have enough staff walking about so I was a bit baffled by how slow the service was and how the staff would walk pass you and avoid eye contact.

Our starters were nice but not amazing and the prawns with the monkfish were tiny - so small I nearly missed them. We waited 30 minutes for our mains and actually had to call someone over to ask where our food was. The guy (I think the manager). He at least seemed attentive to the customers and got on to the case straight away and was nice about it. He offered us free dessert but I was worried we would have time for them as we had to be out of the restaurant within 20mins of getting our mains as we were going elsewhere and I told him this. He was extremely attentive and brought us our free desserts (ice cream selection and a plate of a few different middle-eastern sweets) as soon as we finished our mains. His staff didn't seem to have a clue what was going on and kept asking us if we wanted dessert/ coffee. He also brought us our bill with the 50% discount , our desserts were free as he said, when he brought us our desserts so we were able to get out on time.

The food was nice but not amazing and the service was slow but at least the manager was attentive when he needed to be. Due to this I would go to Kazan City again but only if there was an offer on, as i don't think the food was good enough to pay full price for, and give it another go. If the manager could just get his staff to be a bit more attentive it would be great.

Absolutely brilliant.

Took my mum for her 50th birthday with my brother (and took advantage of the 50% off). The decor was outstanding, the service attentive, the food brilliant and filling.

I ordered a fruit tea which was too sweet. I just mentioned it as I paid the bill and they gave me a complimentary fruit tea, a little less sweet. I sat at the bar and got chatting to the owner, Levant Hassan.

A fantastic evening and the restaurant highly recommended.

One of the best meals out I have ever had anywhere in the world!

The service was attentive without being obsequious, professional, helpful, informative and friendly without being familiar as well as prompt.

The meal was properly paced and in every way excellent. Portions of delicious food were enormous. The 50% offer is a real bargain but never forget that it does not include service.
