Tuesday, September 30, 2008 - I’ve yet to hear of anyone else being wildly impressed by a proper Turkish restaurant in London. Kazan would appear to be an exception. Its Pimlico location is an institution with a passionately loyal following. Hardly surprising, then, that Kazan’s owners spotted profit in expansion. Hence the opening of a new restaurant in Houndsditch Street…Kazan was humming at 8pm on a Thursday night, and was full to the gills with well-clad young people, making a lot of noise and having a good time. The Ottoman-style furnishings create an atmosphere of louche and the bar area is truly inviting with its cushions, deep chairs and golden light.

This place is the best! My Boyfriend and I went there a while ago and we loved it so much we've been back several times, and have even taken his family there who are Turkish. They loved it, we loved it and we will continue to go there.

The decor is very traditional, with an eastern european theme but also done in a very modern, classy way. The food and drink is delicious (I recommend the rose ice-cream for desert and the spicy tea) and the manager, Leonard, was very friendly, attentive and also very funny. We have always got our food fast and hot, and the portions are very good, unlike some restaurants.

This is a great place! You must go!

We ate there on a Monday night at the beginning of November. The welcome was warm, attentive without being ingratiating. The room is lovely, tables set well apart. The food was good, the service friendly. Five of us ate with wine and beer, all reasonably priced - cheaper than Norwich!

I would happily recommend Kazan - we will go again.

We booked a table for 3 people about 3 weeks ago for dinner tonight, but they just called us to say that they are cancelling our booking because they have some large parties tonight. I think it's disgraceful that a restaurant feels that it should favour large groups over smaller groups. The fact that we had booked our table 3 weeks ago obviously means nothing to them. We will never be going back to this restaurant and will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone.
