went to dinner with friends last night to Suksan (march 25, 2011) and loved it. we have been to sooooo many thai restaurants in london living here for 10 years and having worked in thailand for a year. this one was delicious, a bit pricey but we thought definitely worth it. For starters we enjoyed the spring rolls and loved the soft shell crab, didn't love the papaya salad. mains we ordered 3 beef dishes (all pretty small in size) including a thai beef curry which was exactly how you would get it in thailand and loved the seabass redcurry in the banana leaf (best main dish). the rioja wine was pleasant with the meal and priced at £20. yes we are going back very soon even though the restaurant is a fair distance away. yes the service was a bit slow but i guess we didn't mind as we there were 6-7 of us and we had plenty to chat about.

Friday night, I took my girlfriend out for dinner. We love thai food and we thought was a good Idea to try a new restaurant.
The place wasn't too full, staff friendly and good service. not so much the food unfortunately.
Both our starters arrived cold, long wait between the courses. main course was good, however small portions and overpriced in my opinion.

It is perplexing to read so many bad review of this gem in Chelsea. I live close to the place and i have been there several times and i have passion for good food.
The place is elegant with a colonial touch. Very nice furniture and table are quite elegante and so the table setting. Very local touch too.
Personell is incredible nice, warm and professional.
Food is outstanding, especially the curries. We tried several dishes and all the time we remain impressed by freshness of the food, starting from the Thai steam rice, which it is not so simple to do.
i would encourage everybody to go there.

Funny, I've eaten here five or six times and loved it each time, have found the food to be exquisite (yes small portions but what you would expect with the flavours and quality) and the service fine (including responses to my “thank yous” in Thai”). I am going again tonight and am almost apprehensive in case things have changed since my last visit.

This place is ... TERRIBLE. It took us ONE HOUR AND 45 MINS to get our starters and another HOUR to get our main dishes.
Everybody who was at the restaurant with us was getting up every 5-10 minutes and complaining about their food not coming.
Don't waste your time going here. The food is ok but when you're that angry from the waiting, why even bother?

Been twice for the great food, last night was not overly cheap (£97 for light supper and a glass of wine with my girlfriend ) unfortunately female waitress/owner rude, tries to sell you bottles of expensive bottles water as you sit down, when asked for a jug of tap water, she stormed off and and gave us 2 small glasses instead. Then when I tried to say Thank you in Thai she barked back the correct way to say it to! Wont try and be nice to her again in Public :-)
Atmosphere is OK, but be careful, as a very cold breeze at the front every time the door was opened and then stuck next to 2 wannabe Sloane girls talking very loudly about nothing, and 2 guys on a date doing the same!!!
So, good food, ignore the waitress, as she will do the same to you, and. be careful where you sit.
Would go back for the food, but not again soon and not for a romantic meal as being barked at and ignored all night is not too sexy!

Well, I have to say that I disagree with the other review that is written on here. Suksan is an elegant Thai restaurant and NO restaurant of this standard is going to serve all you can eat buffet portions. Nonetheless, I thought that the portions were generally more than reasonable and the pricing was standard of what you'd expect from this kind of place. The food was very tasty and I enjoyed it. The other review is misleading and to be honest - I'm slightly annoyed because if I had read it before I went (I read it on my iPhone whilst waiting for my starter) I would not have gone.

The food was pretty good, but these were the smallest portions I've seen at a Thai restaurant. That combined with over inflated pricing created a disappointing evening and sense of poor value. As an example, the rice portion was the size of a ramekin up-ended as it were, and about 1/4 of a normal serving . This alone cost £2.50 so I ended up asking for some more, almost disbelieving that they would charge me again - but they did ! £5 for half a serving of rice !!! I would never return on this point alone, which is a terrible strategy for running a restaurant - losing custom for a few pennies worth of rice.
So, unless you're on a diet, want to leave hungry or don't mind throwing lots of money at them I'd look for somewhere else that offers better value.
