This is without a doubt the best place I have dined in St Albans and I would say by some considerable margin.

I have only been once but it was with a large party with not one single complaint or grumble only compliment after compliment.

Well done more of the same please!!

I really do doff my cap to the Mumtaj Team for having a go at creating a prime Indian dining experience in St Albans and clearly the food has been created with great care and with remarkable skill.

Wedined on a Friday night at 8pm and the service was impeccable - sadly there were only 4 other diners in there and given that this is a very spacious restaurant we felt like rattling around in a big box.

And there is the rub. Is St Albans ready for this great restaurant as we approach an econimic downturn? Well, I keep my fingers crossed for them but at the same time cannot help being worried that this is not the time for Chez Mumtaj.

I hope I am wrong but £45 + per head for an Indian meal in St Albans, although good, can be got in London where the atmosphere is better.

Wonderful restaurant (opened in 2008) that mixes French haute cuisine with South-East Asian flavours and dishes. I've been there several times since it opened and it never disappoints. Try the set menu at £28.50 if you want to sample Chad Rahman and his team's various superb dishes. The Pak Choi and Shitake mushroom dish is one of the best...and I usually steer a wide berth round vegetarian options! One of the best main courses is the Seafood Risotto: a mixture of creamy flavours that leaves you wanting for more. Not the cheapest place in town - expect to pay £25-£30 for food - but Chez Mumtaj stands out from the crowd compared to other places in St Albans charging the same sort of money

one of the finest indian cuisine offered by this restaurant. the people are friendly and very attentive. i will give 10 out of 10 for their thai menu. Quite enjoyed the evening, especially as they have excellent lounge and bars. This is like the Red Fort of London in St. Albans
